摘要: An eye-mounted display is used to enhance vision of a user with visual impairment. Images of a user's unimpaired view of a surrounding environment are captured. These image are modified to compensate for the user's visual impairment. For example, the captured images can be magnified, an angular extent of the captured images can be compressed, or a contrast of the captured images can be enhanced. Also, the captured images can be modified by including identification of an object, a face, or an emotion. For a captured image including text, the text in the captured images can be modified. The eye-mounted display projects the compensated images onto the user's retina. When the user's retina has a damaged section, the eye-mounted display projects the compensated images away from the damaged section.

摘要: An eye-mounted display includes a scleral contact lens with one or more femtoprojectors that project images onto the user's retina. The scleral contact lens has a non-circular perimeter, for example elongated along the direction of the eye opening. The non-circular shape can result in less slippage and/or rotation of the contact lens relative to the eye. If the contact lens is elongated (compared to traditional circular lenses), then it can contain conductive coils that enclose a larger area. Thus, the lens increases coupling efficiency for power or data transfer. There can also be more space within the contact lens for payloads.

摘要: A color eye-mounted display typically contains different color light emitters, with red, green and blue being the most common color combination. In one approach, the resolution of the red, green and blue components is not the same. For example, there may be more individually addressable red or green subpixels than blue subpixels. In hardware, this may be implemented by using fewer blue light emitters. Alternately, there may be equal numbers of red, green and blue light emitters, but the blue light emitters are not individually addressable and are grouped together to form larger blue subpixels. For example, three or more blue light emitters may form one addressable blue subpixel.

摘要: A monolithic display/projector is disclosed comprising a single die having an array of mechanically isolated LED pillars. Each pillar has a height greater than its width, and a pitch between pillars is less than the heights of the pillars. The die comprises an LED display portion bonded to a silicon substrate addressing portion, with one metal contact per pixel. The resolution of the display is preferably about the same as the resolution of the human retina when projected onto the human retina so that the image projected onto the retina may be indistinguishable from the real world. The display may be encapsulated into a contact lens with a focusing optic embedded into the contact lens. To electrically contact the N-type semiconductor layer, the pillars are surrounded by a reflective cathode metal mesh so that the cathode current is coupled through the vertical sides of the N-type layer. The metal mesh mechanically connects the isolated LED pillars and optically isolates each LED pillar. The active layers may emit blue light, and wavelength conversion layers may be used to generate red and green light.

摘要: A temporary part is mounted onto the chuck of the diamond turning machine. A diamond turning tip of the diamond turning machine is used to form a reference surface on the temporary part, registering a baseline for a motion control system of the diamond turning machine. While the temporary part remains mounted to the diamond turning machine, a workpiece is mounted onto the temporary part, and the diamond tip is controlled relative to the reference surface to diamond turn a surface profile on the workpiece. Because the baseline established by the reference surface compensates for positional variations from mounting parts directly onto the chuck of the diamond turning machine, the length of the workpiece can be shaped to a designated length with a high degree of accuracy.

摘要: A variable geometry contact lens structure having a thickness t sufficient to carry an active payload is constructed using layers of materials with high oxygen transmissibility and low oxygen transmissibility. The low transmissibility layer provide mechanical support for the active payload, and the high transmissibility layers provide adequate oxygen transmission to the cornea of the user's eye. The ratio of the thicknesses of the two layers changes abruptly at the boundaries between the payload and non-payload regions of the structure. For example, at a boundary of the payload region, a ratio of thicknesses of the high transmissibility layer t1 to thickness of the low transmissibility layer t2, R=t1/t2, changes by at least 2:1 over a lateral distance of not more than t.
