    Abstract: In a light source apparatus, an alternating current is supplied to a high pressure discharge lamp from a power supply apparatus to light the lamp. The arrangement state of the lamp is detected by a detection circuit. When the lamp is horizontally arranged, electric energy, whose flow direction is from one electrode of the lamp to the other electrode, is set to be approximately the same as electric energy, whose flow direction is from the other electrode to the one electrode. When the lamp is vertically arranged, while a cycle, which is the same as a polarity change cycle in the horizontal arrangement, is maintained, electric energy, which flows from an upper electrode to a lower electrode, is set to be smaller than electric energy, which flows from the lower electrode to the upper electrode.

    Abstract: A discharge lamp lighting apparatus includes a discharge container, a pair of electrodes and a power supply apparatus. An alternating current of a frequency, which is lower than stationary frequency, is inserted periodically into the alternating current of stationary frequency. When a lighting current value of the discharge lamp is smaller than a predetermined lower limit, the frequency is set as predetermined minimum frequency. When the lighting current value of a discharge lamp is larger than a predetermined maximum value, the frequency is set as predetermined maximum frequency. When a lighting current value of the discharge lamp is between the lower limit and the maximum value, the frequency is set as a selected frequency corresponding to the lighting current value. The selected frequency increases according to an increase of frequency change as a lighting current value increases.

    Abstract: When an ECU receives a transmission signal having a high level from a transmission, the ECU exerts torque reduction control to reduce a torque control value for a motor generator. Furthermore the ECU sets an optimum (or target) value of a voltage as based on the torque control value and a motor rotation speed and controls an upconverter. Herein, when the transmission is shifting gears, the ECU controls the upconverter to allow the voltage to be constant regardless of whether the torque reduction control is exerted to reduce the torque control value.

    Abstract: A control device determines whether a motor generator is controlled in a PWM control mode, an overmodulation control mode or a rectangular-wave control mode. If a command to perform a boosting operation by a voltage step-up converter is issued while the motor generator is controlled in the rectangular-wave control mode, the control device controls an inverter to drive the motor generator by switching the control mode to the overmodulation or PWM control mode.
