Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the operation of leg prosthesis is provided. The apparatus includes a core configured to be attached between a first portion and a second portion of the leg prosthesis. The first portion is configured to move relative to the second portion in a first plane. The core is configured to be moved from a first position to a second position relative to the leg prosthesis such that a stiffness of the core in the first plane is varied from a first stiffness to a second stiffness. The method includes the step of attaching the core between the first portion and the second portion of the leg prosthesis. The method further includes moving the first portion relative to the second portion in a first plane. The method further includes moving the core with a motor from a first position to a second position relative to the leg prosthesis such that a stiffness of the core in the first plane varies from a first stiffness to a second stiffness.

Abstract: The subject invention provides fluorophore-quencher nucleic acid molecules comprising relaxed or supercoiled DNA molecules, and their use in rapid and efficient high-throughput screening (HTS) assays to screen and identify compounds that inhibit DNA gyrases. These compounds can be used as antibiotics for treating bacterial infections, especially, multidrug resistant bacterial infections.

Abstract: A system and method for converting a radio frequency (RF) to a direct current (DC) signal by generating acoustic phonons from the received RF signal utilizing a piezoelectric material. The acoustic phonons of the RF signal interact with the electrons of a semiconductive material to generate a DC signal that is proportional to the power of the RF signal. The DC signal can be used to power devices or can be interpreted as a measure of a local RF frequency spectrum.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a system for managing interruptions to an electronic device outputting an audiovisual broadcast from a media application. The system consists of an interrupt manager, an audiovisual buffer, and a vamping module. The interrupt manager, linked to the device's operating system, is capable of temporarily halting the broadcast and issuing a notification to an end user. The audiovisual buffer collaborates with the interrupt manager, collecting a segment of audio output to create an audio segment to be played during the pause. Concurrently, the vamping module operates by broadcasting the audio segment when the interrupt manager interrupts the broadcast and releases the notification. This process shifts the focus to the notification, relegating the paused broadcast to a background state. The broadcast resumes when the interrupt manager redirects the operating system's focus back to it, promoting the paused broadcast back to the foreground state.

Abstract: A measurement system may include a diffusive cavity including a reflective internal surface and one or more ports, a sample chamber located within the diffusive cavity, and a light source to direct measurement light into the diffusive cavity through one of the one or more ports of the diffusive cavity. The diffusive cavity may uniform illumination of the sample through diffusive reflection of at least one of the measurement light from the light source or scattered measurement light from the sample. The system may further include two or more detectors to capture light exiting at least one of the one or more ports. The system may further include a controller to receive detection signals from the two or more detectors indicative of the scattering of the measurement light by the sample and determine one or more time-varying properties of the sample based on the detection signals.

Abstract: The system extracts water from lunar regolith and includes a regolith intake having a digging bucket that collects lunar regolith soil and a gravel separator that separates and discharges gravel and passes a mixture of ice-regolith powder having ice grains that are about 10-100 microns along the conveyor. A pneumatic separator receives the ice-regolith powder and pneumatically splits the ice-regolith powder into streams of different sized lithic fragments and ice particles per the ratio of inertial force and aerodynamic drag force of the lithic fragments and ice particles. Each split stream may include a magnetic separator that separates further the magnetic and paramagnetic lithic fragments from ice particles to discharge up to 80 percent of lithic fragments to slag.
