Abstract: A method for simulating insertion of a pluggable active optical module includes: detecting whether a state of an optical adapter of a pluggable active optical module regarding connection of a fiber optic cable has changed; obtaining/generating physical layer management information regarding the fiber optic cable in response to detection of a change in state of the optical adapter; toggling a voltage state of a module present pin of a host device to which the pluggable active optical module is connected in response to obtaining/generating the physical layer management information, wherein the host device is configured to determine whether a pluggable active optical module is present based on the voltage state of the module present pin; receiving a read command from the host device in response to toggling the switch; and providing the physical layer management information to the host device in response to the read command.

Abstract: An optically powered media conversion device for performing optical to electrical conversion is disclosed. The conversion device includes at least one optical coupler for receiving at least one optical signal comprising at least one wavelength, wherein the at least one optical coupler extracts energy from the at least one optical signal, and at least one detector for extracting data from the at least one optical signal and converting the optical signal to an electrical signal using a photovoltaic process. The conversion device further includes a transmitter for converting an electrical signal to an optical signal and transmitting the optical signal to a first device.

Abstract: One exemplary embodiment is directed to a system comprising a switch used in a network and a central function configured to receive physical layer information related to the network. The physical layer information includes information associating media access control (MAC) addresses of devices on the network with ports of the switch. The switch is configured to use information about a spanning tree determined by the central function to configure the switch to carry out a switching function performed by the switch. The central function is configured to use at least some physical layer information about patching equipment in the network and end devices in the network in associating MAC addresses of devices on the network with the ports of the switch. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Systems for a PLM configured active optical module (AOM) with native and non-native-network element support are provided. A system includes a non-native network element having a first port with a first inventory interface; a first pluggable AOM installed in the first port and coupled to the first inventory interface, where in response to a request to read a standard table entry the first pluggable AOM provides PLM information to the non-native network element in a format complying with a MSA or a standard for the inventory interface; an extended network element having a second port with a second inventory interface; and a second pluggable AOM installed in the second port and coupled to the second inventory interface, where in response to a request to read a non-standard table entry, processing devices provide PLM information to the extended network element in a format for a physical layer management system.

Abstract: One embodiment is directed to a wall plate device including one or more jacks. Each jack includes a rear attachment point configured to couple to one or more communication paths in a semi-permanent manner. Each jack also includes a front attachment point configured to mate with a connector of a corresponding physical communication media, and to couple such physical communication media to the rear attachment point. Each jack also includes a media reading interface configured to interface with a PLM interface of a connector connected to the front attachment point. The wall plate device also includes a programmable processor coupled to each of the media reading interfaces and configured to access a storage device of a connector connected to the front attachment point through the media reading interface to obtain PLM information. The programmable processor is configured to communicate the PLM information to another device.

The first blade is moveable relative to the chassis between a refracted (closed) position and at least one extended position.
