    摘要: A parasitic load control system is provided. The system may include an exhaust producing engine and a fuel pumping mechanism configured to pressurize fuel in a pressure chamber. The system may also include an injection valve configured to cause fuel pressure to build within the pressure chamber when in a first position and allow injection of fuel from the pressure chamber into one or more combustion chambers of the engine when in a second position. The system may further include a controller configured to independently regulate the pressure in the pressure chamber and the injection of fuel into the one or more combustion chambers, to increase a load on the fuel pumping mechanism, increasing parasitic load on the engine, thereby increasing a temperature of the exhaust produced by the engine.

    摘要: Fuel injectors equipped with direct control needle valves can add new capabilities to a fuel injection system, but can sometimes have difficulty in achieving low hydrocarbon emissions at levels comparable to ancestor fuel injectors that utilize a simple spring biased needle. The present invention seeks lower hydrocarbon emissions by reducing fuel pressure before the direct control needle valve member has reached its closed position toward the end of an injection event. Reducing fuel pressure can be accomplished in a number of ways depending upon the particular fuel injection system, including spilling fuel pressure in a cam system or possibly relieving pressure on an intensifier piston. By employing this strategy, fuel spray from the fuel injector can effectively end before the direct control needle valve member reaches its closed position, thus avoiding hydrocarbon production that could be caused by a small amount of fuel pushed into the combustion space as the needle moves over the last portion of its movement toward its closed position.

    摘要: An electronically-controlled fuel injector includes a pressurized fluid chamber that communicates high pressure fluid to first and second pressure control chambers. A direct-operated check moves between closed and open positions in response to a difference in fluid pressure in the first and second pressure control chambers. A thermally pre-stressed bender actuator is used to operate a control valve that controls the fluid pressure in the first pressure control chamber to effectively control opening and closing of the check during portions of an injection sequence.

    摘要: In dual fuel engines, it is desirable to have injection of two distinct quantities of liquid fuel. Engines with these operating requirements have typically used two separate fuel injectors, or two separate nozzle assemblies, to satisfy this need. However, these systems can be rather complex and difficult to control. In addition, engineers have learned that fuel injectors having direct control have better performance which can increase engine efficiency. Therefore, the present invention addresses the needs of engines desiring injection of two distinct quantities of fuel, such as dual fuel engines, by utilizing a direct control fuel injector having a dual concentric check having separate orifices for the pilot and main injections.

    摘要: A cartridge control valve includes a valve body that defines an inlet passage separated from an outlet passage by a flat valve seat. A solenoid is attached to the valve body. A valve member has one end positioned in the valve body and an other end attached to the solenoid. The valve member has an annular knife edge valve surface located between the one end and the other end. The valve member is moveable from a first position to a second position by energizing the solenoid. The annular knife edge surface is away from the flat valve seat to open the inlet passage to the outlet passage when the valve member is in one of its first position and its second position. The annular knife edge valve surface is seated against the flat valve seat to close the inlet passage to the outlet passage when the valve member is in the other of its first position and its second position.

    摘要: A fuel injector includes a valve member disposed at the upper end of the injector case adjacent a valve recess. The valve member includes a bore and a counterbore, and a tube having a bore is slidably disposed within the counterbore. The valve member bore and the tube bore define a fuel flow passage substantially coincident with the central axis of the injector. The valve member is spring biased to an open position to communicate fuel at transfer pump pressure to the valve recess. At the initiation of the injection cycle, an actuator, preferably an electrical solenoid, closes the valve against the spring force so that fuel is communicated along the central passage to a nozzle.

When the first check valve member moves to an open position, gaseous fuel is injected through both a first nozzle outlet set and a second nozzle outlet set. When the second check valve member moves to an open position, liquid fuel moves through a through passage defined by the first check valve member to facilitate injection of the second nozzle outlet set. The first and second check valve members may be controlled by first and second control valves, respectively.
