Abstract: A hot formed joined blank includes a first metal blank having an ultimate tensile strength of ≥about 1300 MPa to ≤about 2000 MPa and defining a first surface, a second metal blank having an ultimate tensile strength of ≥about 400 MPa to ≤about 1200 MPa and defining a second coated surface having a coating disposed thereon. The coating includes aluminum and silicon or in alternative variations, zinc. A third surface of the second metal blank is joined to the first surface of the first metal blank to form the hot formed joined blank. A weld nugget is disposed along a boundary between the first and second metal blanks that is configured to join the first and second metal blanks, where the weld nugget optionally includes less than or equal to about 1.5 weight percent aluminum or a microstructure comprising austenite and delta-ferrite.

The operations also include that at least one of a fragrance system, a dry particulate removal system, and a wet particulate removal system is activated in response to the type of cleaning required.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a ferrous rotational member including the steps of turning a first portion of the friction surface at a sufficient feed rate to provide a first deformed layer on the first portion of the friction surface; fine turning a second portion of the friction surface at a sufficient feed rate to provide a second deformed layer on the second portion of the friction surface; burnishing the first and second portions of the friction surface to achieve a predetermined roughness; and nitrocarburizing the rotational member at a time and temperature sufficient for the diffusion of nitrogen atoms and carbon atoms through the deformed layer to form hardened casings having variable thickness. The ferrous rotational member may be that of a brake rotor having a hub surface and a friction surface, where the hub surface and friction surface have a variable thickness hardened casing.

Abstract: An isolator for a wheel hub between a brake rotor and a wheel is described, and includes a disk-shaped annular device including an inner ring, an outer ring, a first face portion, a second face portion, a plurality of apertures, a plurality of drain surface portions, and a plurality of radially-oriented drain channels disposed on the first face portion. Each drain channel is recessed in the first face portion. Each drain surface portion is recessed in the first face portion and is fluidly coupled to one of the drain channels. Each of the drain surface portions includes a continuous surface that is recessed from the first face portion between a drainage curve, a respective drain channel, and an arc that is defined on the inner ring between a first point and the respective drain channel.

Abstract: Disclosed are hot forming systems and apparatuses for metalworking components from micro-alloyed press hardened steel (PHS), methods for operating such systems/apparatuses, processes for hot forming components from micro-alloyed PHS, and components formed from such processes. A method of hot forming components from steel is disclosed. The method includes transferring a workpiece formed from a PHS micro-alloyed with niobium (e.g., 0.02-0.1 wt % Nb) to a furnace, e.g., via material handling robot. The workpiece is then heated to a peak furnace temperature and during a furnace time (e.g., total ramp and soak time) selected from a pentagon having heating time and temperature coordinates of: A (about 2 minutes, about 940° C.), B (about 2 minutes, about 1100° C.), C (about 3.5 minutes, about 1100° C.), D (about 5 minutes, about 975° C.), and E (about 5 minutes, about 940° C.). The heated workpiece is then transferred to a hot forming apparatus.

Abstract: Methods of selectively cooling and quenching surface regions of high-strength transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steel are provided. The method may comprise selectively cooling at least one region of an exposed surface of a hot-formed press-hardened component comprising a high-strength steel. Prior to selective cooling, the component has a microstructure comprising≧about 5% by volume retained austenite in a matrix of martensite. The selective cooling is conducted at a temperature of≦about −40° C. and forms at least one quenched region comprising≦about 2% by volume austenite. The TRIP steel may be zinc-coated and having a surface coating comprising zinc and substantially free of liquid metal embrittlement (LME). Zinc-coated hot-formed press-hardened components, including automotive components, formed from such methods are also provided.
