Abstract: An origination device transmits a “received data signal” to a signal forwarding device. The “received data signal” comprises a first set of data. The origination device also transmits at least one “received control signal” to the signal forwarding device and to a destination device. The at least one “received control signal” comprises a first set of control information and a second set of control information. The first and second sets of control information are both associated with the first set of data. The first set of control information contains instructions pertaining to the signal forwarding device processing the first set of data. The second set of control information contains instructions pertaining to the destination device processing the first set of data. The signal forwarding device transmits a “forwarded signal” to the destination device. The “forwarded signal” contains forwarded data, based on the first set of data.

Abstract: The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein describe a wireless communication device transmitting a discovery channel message, at least a portion of which, is embedded in the control channel of a groupcast transmission. In some examples, the discovery channel message is transmitted using a pre-defined, fixed transmit power and modulation and coding scheme (MCS), which facilitates the receiving wireless communication devices' ability to decode the control channel, including the embedded discovery channel message. If a receiving wireless communication device can decode the discovery channel message above a configured threshold (e.g., a received power threshold and/or a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)) but is unable to decode the data portion of the groupcast transmission, which was intended for the receiving wireless communication device, then the receiving wireless communication device will transmit a negative-acknowledgement (NACK) to the wireless communication device that transmitted the groupcast transmission.

Abstract: The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein periodically broadcast a signal containing an indicator to a first area that is near a potential safety scenario, such as an intersection. In some examples, the broadcast signal is part of a Synchronization System Block (SSB). In other examples, the broadcast signal is a System Information Block (SIB) message. Upon entering the first area and waking from an IDLE state, a mobile wireless communication device (WCD) receives the broadcast signal. In response to receiving the broadcast signal, the WCD activates a collision-avoidance procedure. In some examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes sensing device-to-device (D2D) resources in order to detect D2D transmissions from an approaching D2D-capable device (e.g., a vehicle). In other examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes transmitting a periodic D2D safety message using D2D resources.

Abstract: A base station (eNB) determines device-to-device (D2D) transmission parameters for signal transmission over a D2D communication link between a first user equipment (UE) device and a second UE device. The eNB instructs the first UE device to transmit a reference signal that is received by the second UE device. The second UE device reports D2D channel characteristic information indicative of the received reference signal. Based on the D2D channel characteristic information, the base station determines the D2D transmission parameters and provides the parameters to the first UE device.

Abstract: In a communication system having a plurality of user equipment (UE) devices that are operating in a contention based mode for device-to-device (D2D) communication, each UE device transmits a preferred transmission indicator when a condition for preferred transmission is met at the UE device. If a UE device receives a preferred transmission indicator, the UE device delays transmission of a D2D scheduling assignment (SA) to contend for communication resources for D2D communication. The length of the delay can be based on a number of preferred transmission indicators that are received. The preferred transmission indicator is based on a buffer size in one example.

The control message also comprises data layer control information arranged in multiple fields where data layer control information in a field is associated with a device and allows the associated device to recover the data from a data layer assigned to the device.

The origination device utilizes the relaying information to determine a first set of encoding parameters that correspond to channel conditions associated with the first communication link between the signal forwarding device and a destination device. The origination device encodes a first set of data according to the first set of encoding parameters and transmits the encoded first set of data to the signal forwarding device. The signal forwarding device transmits the encoded first set of data to the destination device.

Abstract: The base station includes an encoder that encodes a first set of bits of MTC information with a first coding rate and encodes a second set of MTC information bits with a second coding rate. The first set and second set of bits are modulated using layered modulation and broadcast within the service area of the base station in a first transmission such that the first set of bits can be recovered using the low modulation order and the second set of bits can be recovered using the high modulation order. A relay station receives, demodulates and decodes the first transmission to recover at least the second set of bits. The relay station transmits a second set transmission including at least the second set of bits to at least one MTC device that did not recover the second set of bits from the first transmission.
