A shuttle valve (136) detects a higher one of load pressures of the first and second traveling motors as a maximum load pressure. When performing the combined operation in which the first and second traveling motors are driven with at least one of a plurality of working actuators (53-56) simultaneously, signal selection valves (131, 135, 170) are actuated so as to supply the maximum load pressure to the first and second pressure adjusting devices as the first and second signal pressures. Consequently, in a combined operation of traveling and performing other works, a communication circuit (110) is activated along with the operation of a working actuator whereby even if a hydraulic fluid supply circuit (104) of the second traveling directional control valve communicates with a hydraulic fluid supply circuit (103) of a first traveling directional control valve, the differential pressures across the first and second variable restrictors become almost the same, thereby achieving a stable straight traveling.

The meter-out circuit is provided with a main valve for controlling the return fluid from the actuator, and a pilot circuit including a variable restrictor. When the main valve is closed, the pilot circuit is closed, and when the main valve is open, its degree of opening varies depending upon an amount of restriction of the variable restrictor. A controller varies the amount of restriction of the variable restrictor valve in accordance with the driving pressure of the actuator.

A pump control operative in response to the difference between the discharge pressure of the hydraulic pump and the maximum load pressure of the hydraulic actuators normally controls the discharge rate of the hydraulic pump so that the pump discharge pressure is raised more than the maximum load pressure by a predetermined value. A first pressure-compensating control operates with a valve determined by the difference between the pump discharge pressure and the maximum load pressure, the value acting as a compensating differential-pressure target value, and pressure-compensation-controls the first main variable restrictor of the flow control valve. A second pressure-compensating control is operative with a value determined by the pressure difference across the first main variable restrictor, the valve acting as a compensating differential-pressure target value, for controlling the second main variable restrictor of the flow control valve.

A security system for a construction machine including a construction machine equipped with a body controller for storing a first password, management apparatus arranged in a location apart from the construction machine and a portable communications unit for storing a second password provided communicably with the management apparatus and the body controller. The portable communications unit, receiving the first password from the management apparatus, replaces the second password with the first password. The body controller determines whether the second password output from the portable communications unit coincides with the first password. In case these passwords coincide with each other, an engine drive signal is output. Otherwise the engine is kept inoperable. This prevents possible theft of a construction machine.
