    Abstract: A multi-cylinder internal combustion engine comprising: first and second crankshafts disposed apart from and parallel with each other; first and second pistons operatively connected to the first and second crankshafts through connecting rods, respectively; and first and second cylinders for slidably accommodating therein the first and second pistons, respectively, both the crankshafts being interlocked with each other to rotate synchronously, the first and second cylinders being disposed adjacent to each other in the axial directions of the crankshafts. Vibrations due to the primary inertial force can be eliminated or alleviated without using a special balancer shaft. The size and weight of the engine are greatly reduced as compared with a conventional horizontally opposed type or V type engine.

    Abstract: A valve driving apparatus in an internal combustion engine having plural valve stems in a cylinder head on an upper portion of a main body of an engine which are aligned radially about the cylinder head with the intersection of their longitudinally axes substantially coinciding with a center of curvature of an upper wall surface of a combustion chamber, the valve stems being arranged to be driven by at least one cam shaft through respective subsidiary rocker arms which are in abutment with respective heads of the valve stems and respective rocker arms which are in abutment with the subsidiary rocker arms, characterized in that a shaft for each of the subsidiary rocker arms is positioned on a plane crossing a longitudinal axis of the corresponding one of the valve stems at a right angle and existing in a range of up and down stroke of the head of the valve stem.

    Abstract: A pressing cuff presses a pressure sensor above an artery. The level of the pressure applied to the pressure sensor is changed while the pulse wave is measured based on information about the pressure from the pressure sensor. In order to adjust the level of the applied pressure using the pressure of gas in the pressing cuff, a three-port valve and a two-port valve are controlled so that the connection is changed to establish a state of holding the amount of the gas in the pressing cuff. Then, the state is changed to a state of isolating and discharging gas in which a part of the held gas is isolated from the remaining amount of the gas to be discharged. Then, the state is changed to the state of holding the remaining amount of gas in the pressing cuff.
