    摘要: In a liquid crystal display device, auxiliary lines are formed under pixel electrodes so as to be parallel to signal or scanning lines. The auxiliary lines are connected to the signal or scanning lines at one point for each pixel. This permits a voltage to be applied to a signal or scanning line if a disconnection defect occurs in the signal or scanning line. The auxiliary line is connected to the signal or scanning line at opposite sides of the defect to form a circuit around the defect. Moreover, if a leakage defect occurs at a crossing point between the scanning line and the signal line, the signal or scanning line may be cut off at both sides of the scanning or signal line, and the auxiliary line forms a circuit that avoids the line leak. Thus, a voltage may be applied to the signal or scanning line by the auxiliary line.

The thin film transistor includes a gate electrode connected to the gate line, a source electrode connected to the source line, and a drain electrode connected to a pixel electrode. An interlayer insulating film is provided over the thin film transistor, the gate line, and the source line. The pixel electrode is provided on the interlayer insulating film, and is connected to the drain electrode via a contact hole formed in the interlayer insulating film. A conductive layer extends over a channel region of the thin film transistor via the interlayer insulating film.

    摘要: In a liquid crystal display, a first data signal line and a second data signal line are provided for each pixel column. In at least one embodiment, in a case where every two pixels in the pixel column are paired, one of two pixels in each pair is connected with the first data signal line and the other of the two pixels is connected with the second data signal line, two scanning signal lines respectively connected with the two pixels are simultaneously selected during one horizontal scanning period so that signal potentials are written into the two pixels from the first data signal line and the second data signal line, respectively, during each horizontal scanning period, supply of the signal potentials to the first data signal line and the second data signal line is performed after supply of preliminary potentials to the first data signal line and the second data signal line. This allows improving the display quality of a liquid crystal display in which a larger size, higher definition, or higher-speed driving etc. makes full charging of pixels difficult even when simultaneous scanning.

A non-electrode through-bore portion is created on the drain lead electrode, and an opening of the contact hole crosses the through-bore portion. As a result, any changes or decreases in the contact area between the drain lead electrode and the pixel electrode may be prevented or reduced significantly, while the open area ratio can be improved.

    摘要: First and second data signal lines are provided for a column of pixels, and signal potentials of opposite polarity to each other are supplied to the data signal lines respectively. In at least one embodiment, a predetermined pixel is taken as the first pixel. A pixel other than the (2×n×i+1)-th pixel in the scanning direction is connected to a data signal line different from that connected to the previous pixel, whereas the (2×n×i+1)-th pixel is connected to the same data signal line as that connected to the previous pixel. The polarity of the signal potential supplied to each data signal line is inverted every n horizontal scanning periods. Every adjacent two scan signal lines starting from the scan signal line connected to the predetermined pixel are sequentially selected at the same time among scan signal lines. A liquid crystal display with this structure enables an increase of the pixel charging time as well as prevention of flickering.

The insulating film is a multiple layer insulating film including a first insulating layer and a second insulating layer provided on the first insulating layer. The multiple layer insulating film has a low stacking region excluding the first insulating layer and a high stacking region in which the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer are stacked. The first insulating layer is provided so as to cover at least an edge of the gate electrode. The semiconductor layer is provided on both the low stacking region and the high stacking region of the multiple layer insulating film. The semiconductor layer and the low stacking region are arranged such that a path of a current flowing between the source electrode and the drain electrode necessarily passes a part of the semiconductor layer which is located above the low stacking region.

    摘要: Pseudo-impulse display for reducing after-images during display of moving images in an active matrix type display apparatus. Liquid crystal capacitors are formed at intersections of signal lines and scanning lines to display images. Auxiliary capacitors are provided for keeping a potential difference across the liquid crystal capacitors during display. One of the two electrodes of the auxiliary capacitors is connected to a switching element together with a pixel electrode. After the liquid crystal capacitor and the auxiliary capacitor have been charged with a video signal on the signal lines while the switching element is selectively put into the conducting state with the scanning lines, and after a predetermined time has passed, an auxiliary capacitor driver applies a signal to the other electrode of the auxiliary capacitor, such that the display luminance due to the liquid crystal capacitor is reduced.
