摘要: A fluid machine according to the present invention has an expansion-and-compressor device selectively operating as an expansion device for collecting waste heat from an internal combustion engine and converting the collected heat energy into mechanical rotational force, and as a compressor device for compressing refrigerant for a refrigerating cycle for air conditioner. The fluid machine further comprises an electric rotating device selectively operating as an electric power generator and as an electric motor. A power transmission device is further provided between the expansion-and-compressor device and the electric rotating device for selectively transmitting the rotational force from the expansion-and-compressor device to the electric rotating device and vice versa. The power transmission device is composed of a planetary gear train so that it can change rotational speed to be transmitted to the expansion-and-compressor device or to the electric rotating device. Accordingly, the expansion-and-compressor device as well as the electric rotating device can be operated at their most efficient rotational speed.

摘要: An object of the invention is to minimize energy loss to be generated at a driving shaft and a shaft seal device, when an electric rotating device is driven by an expansion-and-compressor device. According to a feature of the invention, a first driving shaft is rotationally supported by a housing and transmits a driving force from an engine to a second shaft of the expansion-and-compressor device, wherein a shaft seal device is provided on the first driving shaft for air-tightly sealing the inside of the housing from the outside of the housing. A power transmission control device (electromagnetic clutch or one way clutch) is operatively provided in a path between the first driving shaft and the second shaft, so that power transmission from the second shaft to the first driving shaft is cut off, to suppress any energy loss to be generated between the first driving shaft and the shaft seal device.

摘要: A scanning optical system deflects a light beam by a reflection surface of a polygon mirror toward an object surface through an image forming optical system so that the light beam scans on the object surface to form an image thereon. A light shielding member is disposed between the polygon mirror and the image forming optical system. The shielding member is an opaque plate disposed perpendicular to the optical axis of the image forming optical system. The light shielding member prevents a ghost light that is reflected by another reflection surface of the polygon mirror located adjacent to the reflection surface deflecting the light beam from entering the image forming optical system and impinging onto the object surface.

摘要: A multi-beam scanning optical system is provided with a light source unit, polygonal mirror, and an f&thgr; lens. The f&thgr; lens includes first, second and third lenses. The beams emitted by the light source unit are incident on the first, second and third lenses in this order. The first lens consists of two lens elements, the first lens element converges the plurality of beams in an auxiliary scanning direction. The second lens element converges the plurality of beams in a main scanning direction. A plurality of convex surfaces, which correspond to the plurality of beams and converge the plurality of beams in the auxiliary scanning direction, respectively, are formed on one of surfaces of the first and second lens elements. Further, a diffraction lens structure for compensating for lateral chromatic aberration caused by a refraction lens structure of the f&thgr; lens system is formed on each of the plurality of convex surfaces.

摘要: The invention relates to an improvement in the contrast of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal cell which is constructed with an antiferroelectric liquid crystal sandwiched between a pair of substrates. The antiferroelectric liquid crystal cell has a layer structure such that when a Fourier transform is applied to an output voltage produced as a result of the application of a sinusoidal voltage as a reference frequency to the liquid crystal cell, the transformed output voltage contains frequency components at odd and even multiples of the reference frequency, and the optical path length of the liquid crystal cell lies in the range of 100 nm to 800 nm.

摘要: A liquid crystal panel has a memory function that is reliable for a long time. The panel employs a ferroelectric or antiferroelectric liquid crystal material involving at least two kinds of layer structures of minimum energy. The layer structures are defined at least by (1) a c-director parameter that is in parallel with substrates of the panel and has at least one minimal value, or (2) an a-director parameter that is orthogonal to the substrates and has at least one maximal value. Due to these layer structures, the panel is stable, resistant to mechanical and electrical stress, reliable in operation, and excellent in memory function.
