Abstract:
An apparatus for inducing and accelerating hydrogen dissociation in a cloud generated from feedstock fed into a chamber defined by the apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a device for thermally stimulating the feedstock to generate the cloud, a device for localizing the cloud within the chamber, a device for electrically stimulating the localized cloud, and a device for photonically stimulating the localized cloud. A method is also provided.
Abstract:
Drum reactor (10) for aerobic fermentation has a frame (12) with which a height adjusting device (14). The drum reactor is provided with a rotary drum (11) having air pipes (20) extending longitudinally along its outer shell. The air pipes (20) are subject to compressed air and humidity by the action of a distributor slide valve (25) so that the air pipe (37) which is free of fermenting material (26) is inactive. Associated with the air pipes (20) are a plurality of jets (21) which lead into the drum interior (27) where they are at least partially covered by baffles (22). By their plough-like disposition, the baffles ensure circulation and onwards conveyance of the material to be fermented. Provided on the drum bottom (38) is a discharge orifice (33) which can be closed by a plough flap (36). For delivery of fermented material, the plough flap can be spread open into the drum interior.
Abstract:
An apparatus for producing a polyacetylene film by introducing acetylene gas into a vessel for storing Ziegler-Natta catalyst to polymerize the acetylene gas with the catalyst which comprises a film forming projecting flat section having a film forming flat surface projected from the surface of the Ziegler-Natta catalyst stored in the bottom of the vessel, thereby coating the Ziegler-Natta catalyst on the inner surface of the side wall of the vessel and the film forming flat surface. Thus, the acetylene gas introduced into the vessel is polymerized with the catalyst to produce the polyacetylene film. In this manner, the polyacetylene film having a constant thickness of high quality can be produced with the Ziegler-Natta catalyst of the suitable amount by providing the film forming flat surface even in the bottom of the vessel, thereby improving the production efficiency.
Abstract:
A method of reacting a first reactive substance bonded to the inner wall surface of a reaction vessel and a second reactive substance in a liquid phase in the vessel by rotating the reaction vessel about its axis at a speed of 10 to 100 rpm, while said reaction vessel is kept inclined at an angle between 5.degree. and 45.degree. to the horizon with its mouth being raised; and an apparatus usable for practicing this method.
Abstract:
A polyvinyl alcohol-aldehyde reaction product is produced continuously in a rotating contactor by contacting solid particles of the polyvinyl alcohol with the aldehyde in an acidic aqueous salt solution. The product can be dried and then sieved to remove oversize particles. A preferred aldehyde is either formaldehyde or glutaraldehyde which reacts with the polyvinyl alcohol to produce a reaction product that can be used as a fluid loss control agent in oil fields.
Abstract:
The vacuum chamber includes an airtight generally cylindrical wall and a pair of end members. Vacuum pumps in the chamber evacuate the chamber. The chamber is rotated along the longitudinal axis whereby the centrifugal force of the rotating cylindrical wall acts against the force resulting from the pressure differential between the inside of the evaluated chamber and ambient pressure on the outside of the cylindrical wall to prevent the cylindrical wall from collapsing. An inner member is mounted in the chamber, but the chamber rotates with respect to the inner member. In a low temperature embodiment for freeze drying refrigerated air cools the outside of the chamber to reduce the temperature within the chamber. The consensables condense on the inside of the cold cylindrical wall. A lathe adjacent the inside of the cylindrical wall and lathe drive means for moving the lathe along the length of the cylindrical wall as the wall passes thereover upon rotation of the chamber for removing excess ice from the inside of the cylindrical wall. A higher temperature embodiment for hydrocarbon pyrolysis is also disclosed. Shale is fed into bins, is heated, and vapors condense on the chamber wall where they form a liquid from which is pumped through the chamber by centrifugal force of the rotating chamber.
Abstract:
Dimethyl terephthalate is prepared by the continuous esterification of terephthalic acid in the gas phase by evaporating solid terephthalic acid in a pre-reactor by means of a hot methanol vapor stream, conducting the gas mixture through a solid bed catalyst in a follow-up reactor, and recirculating a portion of the reaction product to the pre-reactor.
Abstract:
Water-in-oil emulsions of water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated amide monomers, alone or in the presence of acrylic acid or alkyl-substituted acrylic acid are continuously catalytically polymerized, or co-polymerized, in thin films or layers and in the absence of oxygen at temperatures maintained within plus or minus 3*C. of predetermined optimum polymerization or co-polymerization temperatures.
