Abstract:
Systems and methods for differential updates in a data broadcasting environment are disclosed. A data broadcasting system receives profile information representative of information desired by subscribers to the data broadcasting system. Broadcast content may be adjusted in response to changes in the aggregate status of document versions stored on subscriber units.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method and system for transmitting on-demand multimedia information to an end-user's set-top-box (STB). The multimedia information may be received from at least one satellite via a satellite receiver. The satellite receiver may convey the multimedia information to a service provider location. At the service provider location, a content server may receive a request for transmission of multimedia information. The request may be validated to determine whether the request is authorized. Upon determining that the request is authorized, the multimedia information may be transmitted by a distribution unit to the STB at the end-user location. In contrast to prior systems, instead of transmitting every channel that a service provider offers to each end-user location, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, only the particular multimedia information (channel) being requested is transmitted to each end-user location.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method and system for employing power-saving states/modes in electronic devices. The electronic device may be adapted to determine whether an end-user is physically present when the electronic device is in operation or when an end-user display apparatus is inactive. The electronic device may be adapted to prompt an end-user to respond with an appropriate response. Upon determining that the end-user is not physically present, the electronic device may be adapted to enter at least one of a plurality of power-saving modes. The end-user, the network, and the electronic device may each be able to set the power-saving modes. The electronic device may also enter at least one of a plurality of power-saving modes by default. The electronic device may be adapted to maintain an end-user's settings and preferences by employing the power-saving modes.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method integrates cellular technology, global positioning system (GPS) technology and satellite radio technology. The components of the apparatus share resources, such as a power, dual GPS/satellite antennae, display screen and controls. The system provides an “on-demand” back channel, such as via the nationwide cellular phone network, that allows a satellite radio subscriber to order data on demand from the satellite radio provider, such as a particular list of songs or travel information. The invention utilizes the existing satellite radio infrastructure which is capable of delivering large amounts of streaming on-demand customized programming and information across a satellite channel to a subscriber's satellite radio decoder. By effectively utilizing the growth and momentum of satellite radio technology, the invention introduces new options for location based services (LBS). Using the existing satellite radio infrastructure minimizes the overall cost of delivery of location based services while allowing a wide range of service options.
Abstract:
The protection of data against illicit transfer with respect to specific data can be ensured. An integrated receiver decoder determines whether or not ATRAC (Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding) data requiring authentication is contained in selected piece-of-music data in accordance with determination data added into transmitted data. When ATRAC data requiring authentication is contained, the integrated receiver decoder performs an authentication process between it and a storage which is a transfer destination of the ATRAC data, and performs downloading of the ATRAC data after confirming that the storage is a valid apparatus to which the downloading may be performed.
Abstract:
A method of broadcasting data files to selected mobile units, comprising steps of (a) receiving, through a bi-directional wireless network, a data request from a mobile unit, the data request including identification information for the mobile unit, (b) associating the data request with a digital data file; and (c) broadcasting the digital data file together with identification data for the mobile unit over a download channel on a broadcast network that has an overlapping coverage area with the bi-directional wireless network.
Abstract:
The establishment of an interactive broadcasting network requires not only a transmission channel from transmitter to receiver but also a transmission channel from receiver to transmitter. A novel method of creating a data feedback channel from receiver to transmitter is implemented in a common frequency network and involves the use of a transmission procedure in conformity with the DAB standard. Each receiver or user is assigned an identifier which is transmitted in the data feedback channel at specially reserved frequencies to request transmission capacity. A computer then allocates transmission capacity to the receiver. The signals received in the forward channel are evaluated using the synchronization symbols they contain in order to synchronize the transmitter component in the receiver. The novel process can be used in all common frequency networks which use data transmission in conformity with the DAB standard and ensures a particularly economical synchronization in the receiver.
Abstract:
A system and method for using a webpad to select a target device which is to receive from a source device a stream of a digital representation of a media. The webpad is used to send a transmission to the source device to cause the source device to route the stream of the digital representation of the media to the target device where the target device decodes and converts the digital representation of the media into analog signals to thereby allow for a reproduction of the media.
Abstract:
A system of capturing real-time audience interaction via a web-based user interface and automatically adjusting a radio station's programming through a unique direct interface with the radio station's studio operating system and/or music scheduling system. The web based user interface is accessible through a computer, mobile, cellular, and social media site or web-connected car dashboard. Audience participation is collected and processed using an algorithm to determine how a radio station's programming should be manipulated to fit the preferences of the audience. The invention allows the audience to determine which selection should play next on the air, prioritize which elements should play on the air, to play audio on demand, and to upload audio selections, and provides instant alerts, such as by SMS texting, IM, E-mail, and Social Media when a listener's selection is about to play on the air.
