摘要:
Biologically compatible materials capable of being formed into implants, comprising layers of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) and mixtures of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) and elastomer, having excellent compliance, strength, elasticity and suturability are disclosed. The materials are preferably prepared as implants or vascular grafts by co-extruding a relatively thin luminal layer of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) having a distinct fibral nodal microstructure within a layer of a mixture of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) and elastomer to impart elasticity to the implant. A preferred embodiment comprises a radially asymmetric composite vascular graft having a luminal layer of poly(tetrafluoroethylene), a second layer of poly(tetrafluoroethylene)/elastomer mixture, a third layer of elastomer, and a fourth layer of a monomer fibrous elastomer matrix with each layer having a distinctive pore size, pore shape and porosity to promote tissue ingrowth and periprosthetic tissue anchoring.

An aqueous solution of precursors for biologically active glass, support particles coated with the solution, support particles coated with the glass, spheroidal particles of biologically active glass, processes for making the solution, coating the support, and for making the coated support and the spheroidal glass particles. The materials that comprise the biologically active glass are useful in prosthetic devices and implants for the human body.
摘要:
A process for preparing a crosslinked collagen-glycosaminoglycan composite material which comprises forming an uncrosslinked composite material from collagen and a glycosaminoglycan and contacting the uncrosslinked composite with a gaseous aldehyde until a crosslinked product having an M.sub.c of from about 800 to about 60,000 is disclosed along with composite materials prepared by this process. Artificial skin produced by this process is more stable toward long-term storage than similar materials prepared using other methods of crosslinking.

A composition of material suitable for in vivo implantation to provide an environment in which normal tissue growth is fostered which composition is a porous fibrous structure in which the critical surface tension of the fibers is 35 dynes per centimeter or higher. This composition in the preferred form is a porous structure of carbon or graphite fibers bonded together by sintered polytetrafluoroethylene in a manner to expose a maximum amount of fiber surface.Another composition of material suitable for implantation for wear surfaces includes carbon fibers and polytetrafluoroethylene resin and is processed to align the carbon fibers with the wear surfaces. The method of preparing both material includes the step of mixing, filtering, compressing, rolling, sintering and drying. The method of stabilizing appliances or implants includes bonding the ingrowth material to the appliance or implant. Also the combination of the ingrowth material with appliances, tendon replacement elements and wear material are included.

Medical devices, such as endoprostheses, and methods of making the devices are disclosed. The endoprostheses comprise a tubular member capable of maintaining patency of a bodily vessel. The tubular member includes a mixture of at least two compositions, where the presence of the second composition gives the mixture a greater hardness than that of the first composition alone. The first composition includes less than about 25 weight percent chromium, less than about 7 weight percent molybdenum, from about 10 to about 35 weight percent nickel, and iron. The second composition is different from the first and is present from about 0.1 weight percent to about 5 weight percent of the mixture.

A process for producing implants made of a bioresorbable metal, particularly magnesium alloys or zinc alloys, in which the material properties of the magnesium or the zinc are changed and the processing and utilization properties are improved by combining process steps for adjusting the properties of the material and subsequent machining. In this way it is possible to produce thin-walled tubular implants, particularly blood vessel support stents, from bioresorbable magnesium or zinc alloys, which are readily deformable without the risk of fracture during implantation.

Biodegradable, flowable or flexible polymer compositions are described comprising a polymer having the recurring monomeric units shown in formula I: wherein: each of R and R′ is independently straight or branched alkylene, either unsubstituted or substituted with one or more non-interfering substituents; L is a divalent cycloaliphatic group; R″ is selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, heterocyclic or heterocycloxy; and n is 5 to 1,000, wherein said biodegradable polymer is biocompatible before and upon biodegradation. In one embodiment, one or more of R, R′ or R″ is a biologically active substance. Amorphous compositions containing a biologically active substance, in addition to the polymer, and methods for controllably releasing biologically active substances using the compositions, are also described.

Alloy compositions suitable for fabricating medical devices, such as stents, are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the compositions have small amounts of nickel, e.g., the compositions can be substantially free of nickel.
