摘要: The instant disclosure is directed to methods of improving bone-soft tissue healing using biocompatible electrospun polymer fibers. In one embodiment, a method may include locating a portion of a subject's bone, affixing a tendon or ligament to the bone using a hardware fixture, and placing a patch comprising at least one electrospun polymer fiber in physical communication with both the bone and the tendon or ligament. In some embodiments, the bone may be a humerus, and the tendon or ligament may be a supraspinatus tendon. In certain embodiments, the patch may comprise substantially parallel electrospun polymer fibers, and may be placed such that the fibers are also substantially parallel with the long axis of the tendon or ligament.

摘要: A method of forming an implant to be implanted into living bone is disclosed. The method comprises the act of roughening at least a portion of the implant surface to produce a microscale roughened surface. The method further comprises forming a nanoscale roughened surface on the microscale roughened surface. The method further comprises the act of depositing discrete nanoparticles on the nanoscale roughened surface though a one-step process of exposing the roughened surface to a solution including the nanoparticles. The nanoparticles comprise a material having a property that promotes osseointegration.

摘要: A ceramic composite material and a method for producing same. The ceramic composite material has a ceramic matrix comprising zirconium oxide and at least one secondary phase dispersed therein. The matrix is composed of zirconium oxide as at least 51 vol.-% of composite material, and the secondary phase is in a proportion of 1 to 49 vol.-% of composite material, wherein 90 to 99% of the zirconium oxide is present in the tetragonal phase based on the total zirconium oxide portion. The tetragonal phase of the zirconium oxide is stabilized by at least one member selected from the group consisting of chemical stabilization and mechanical stabilization. The ceramic composite is damage-tolerant.
