The present invention provides a fluorescent dye-silane hybrid resin manufactured by polycondensing an alkoxysilane bonded with a fluorescent dye with an organo-silane. More particularly, the present invention provides a fluorescent dye-siloxane hybrid resin that is manufactured by reacting a fluorescent dye having one or more functional groups with an alkoxysilane having an organic functional group to form an alkoxysilane bonded with the fluorescent dye and then polycondensing the alkoxysilane bonded with a fluorescent dye with an organo-silanediol and an organo-alkoxysilane having a thermocurable or ultraviolet-curable functional group without water. The fluorescent dye-silane hybrid resin has excellent thermostability, photostability, fluorescence characteristics, and processibility.

Fluorescent polymeric materials are disclosed comprising a polymer and one or more lipid soluble rhodamine dyes. The materials are especially useful in the preparation of multicolored microparticles, especially multicolored polystyrene microparticle, for use in the multiplexed analysis of a plurality of analytes in a single sample. When excited by a light source, the materials give off a unique emission based on the nature, concentration and ratio of the dyes therein. Methods of preparing and using said materials are also disclosed.

Work clothing, having an optical warning effect, which has been dyed in specific, prescribed color shades and is not coated with plastics is desired by the authorities. Thioindigo and/or derivatives of the red and pink series of thioindigo, as the base dyestuff, in combination with specific yellow disperse dyestuffs have proved usable, for dyeings on polyester fibers or polyester/cotton fiber mixtures, which are in the required shade of fluorescent orange-red and meet the requirements regarding color point, luminance and fastness to light. Both the exhaustion process and the thermosol process can be used to produce these dyeings.

Improved process for the sulfatation of the hydroxy group of a .beta.-hydroxy-ethylsulfonyl group present in compounds selected from the dyestuff class which comprises carrying out the reaction in a machine operating with a kneading action and effect and with the use of only 1 to 5 times the equimolar amount of a concentrated sulfuric acid, of oleum or sulfur dioxide itself. The .beta.-sulfatoethylsulfonyl group containing dyestuffs, thus prepared have a high purity and are obtained in a high yield and esterification rate. Above all, the novel process is distinguished by a highly reduced salt and acid content of the waste water.
