摘要： A clutch cover 25 is disposed opposite to a pressure surface 26a of a pressure plate 26 and is fixed to a flywheel. The pressure plate 26 has the pressure surface 26a facing a friction surface 15 of a clutch disk. An annular lever plate 28 is supported at its outer circumferential edge to a clutch cover 25 and is contacted at a radially intermediate portion to the pressure plate 26. The pressure plate 26 is biased to be disengaged from the friction surface 15 of the clutch disk. A release bearing 31 is in contact with an inner circumferential edge of the lever plate 28 on the transmission side. A hydraulic cylinder 32 serves to move the release bearing 31 in the axial direction.

摘要： Rotational control apparatus in the preferred forms of fan clutches (A, A') are shown including an eddy current drive (224). Specifically, the eddy current drive (224) includes a plurality of permanent magnets (226) mounted circumferentially spaced and with alternating polarity by a holder (228) to the input of the clutch (A, A') and a magnetically conductive ring (242) mounted to the output of the clutch (A, A'). Thus, the output portion and the fan blades mounted thereto are driven at engine speeds when the clutch (A, A') is air actuated and are driven at a rotational speed less than engine speed by the eddy current drive (224) when the clutch (A, A') is not air actuated and without separate controls for the eddy current drive (224). In preferred forms, a housing (62) comprises the output portion of the clutch (A) which is rotatably mounted by a bearing (58) to the hub portion (24) of a friction disc (28) which comprises the input portion of the clutch (A). In another preferred form, the output portion of the clutch (A') is in the form of a hub (20') rotatably mounted on a stationary shaft (24') and the input portion is in the form of a sheave (50') rotatable relative to the hub (20') and the shaft (24'). Additionally, the hub (20') can be braked by rotatably relating the hub (20') to the shaft (24'). In one of the preferred forms, the friction ring (252) includes peripheral gear teeth (256) in slideable gearing relation with gear teeth (250) formed in the housing (62) and is formed of fiber brake material to act as a dampener between the friction disc (28) and the housing (62) to absorb torsional vibration.

摘要： Rotational control apparatus in the form of fan clutches (C) are disclosed including a first, friction disc portion (12) splined on a hub (20) and rotatably mounted on a shaft (24). The friction disc portion (12) is reciprocal between a first position rotatably related to the facing (52) of a sheave (50) rotatably mounted on the hub (20) and a second position rotatably independent of the sheave (50). A second friction disc portion (212) is splined on the hub (20) and is reciprocal between a first position rotatably related to the facing (252) of a second sheave (250) rotatably mounted on the hub (20) and rotating at a different rotational speed than sheave (50). By selective engagement of the friction disc portions (12, 212), the hub (20) will be rotated on the shaft (24) at either the rotational speed of the first sheave (50) or the second sheave (250). In another form, a second, friction disc portion (112) is rotatably mounted on a reciprocal piston (100) and rotatable relative to the hub (20). Planetary gears (114) are rotated intermediate and in gearing relation between a sun gear (96) fixed on the shaft (24) and an annulus (124) fixed to the hub (20). The second, friction disc portion (112) is reciprocal between a first position rotatably related to a facing (152) secured to the sheave (50) opposite to the facing (52). By selective engagement of the friction disc portions (12, 112), the hub (20) will be rotated on the shaft (24) at either the rotational speed of the sheave (50) or at a rotational speed different than the sheave (50) and specifically at a rotational speed dependent on the ratio of the planetary drive.

A generally annular pressure plate is axially movable relative to the cover but constrained to rotate with it. An engagement device urges the pressure plate in the axial direction away from the cover. It is formed at least in part by an axially acting spring arrangement comprising at least two Belleville washers. These are disposed radially one inside the other with the larger diameter edge of one Belleville washer lying on a circumference of smaller diameter than the circumference on which lies the smaller diameter edge of the other Belleville washer.

摘要： A friction coupling apparatus contains a plurality of fluid motor actuators circumferentially fixed about a relatively rotatable shaft. Each of the actuators is positioned between a spaced pair of friction rotors fixed to the shaft for rotation therewith. The actuators each contain an annular axially distensible elastomeric air tube, which upon pressurization operates to force pairs of friction members against the rotors for establishing frictional communication between the shaft and a relatively fixed support member. In a preferred embodiment, the elastomeric air tube contains a pair of axially spaced apertures. Each aperture defines a circumferential sealing edge by which one of a pair of air pistons is supported. Each piston contains a circumferential groove which sealingly mates with one of the edges, the pistons positioned to bear directly against the friction members.

Specific examples of such assemblies are explained with reference to a double cone friction clutch and a twin friction disk clutch, having two movable clutch members as well as two such disks. 摘要： A clutch or brake comprises at least one annular piston reciprocally mounted therein to be selectively moved to compress an annular pressure plate against a friction disc for clutching or braking purposes. A plurality of circumferentially disposed Ushaped resilient pincher-like retraction springs each comprises parallel first and second leg portions connected together by an intermediate portion. The springs are arranged to have each first leg portion engage the piston to urge it towards its retracted position and away from the pressure plate. In one embodiment of this invention, employing a single piston, the second leg portion of the spring engages in a recess formed on a housing having the piston mounted therein. In a second embodiment, employing two back-to-back pistons each positioned adjacent to a friction disc, each leg portion of the spring engages a respective one of the pistons to urge them towards each other.
