Abstract: In a case of exchanging a migration source storage controller and a migration destination storage controller sharing one storage medium during replacement of storage devices, when hardware configurations or data management forms of the storage controllers are different, data in the storage medium cannot be shared even when data management information can be copied. Accordingly, a storage system, having a storage control unit and a storage drive provided with a storage medium, includes data management information for accessing data in the storage drive. A first storage control unit copies data management information about the data in the storage drive to a second storage control unit. When a write request is received from a host after copying of the data management information begins, each of the first storage and second storage control units stores write data related to the write request in a separate storage area of the storage drive.

Abstract: One or more storage systems are connected to one or more storage boxes comprising multiple storage devices. Multiple storage areas provided by one or more storage boxes include an allocated area, which is a storage area that is allocated to a virtual volume, and an empty area, which is a storage area that is not allocated to any logical volume. Multiple owner rights corresponding to multiple storage areas are set in one or more storage systems. A storage system having an empty area owner right changes an empty area to the allocated area by allocating the empty area. In a case where a configuration change (a relative change in the number of storage boxes with respect to the number of storage systems) is performed, a first storage system that exists after the configuration change sets, in the first storage system, either more or fewer owner rights than the owner rights, which have been allocated to the first storage system before the configuration change.

Such example implementations can involve, responsive to an update to one or more of a plurality of snapshot volumes in the first storage system, updating first shared page information stored in the first storage system according to the update to the one or more snapshot volumes, the first shared page information indicative of pages shared between the plurality of snapshot volumes in the first storage system; transmitting instructions to the second storage system to copy the updates to the one or more snapshot volumes from the first shared page information to a second shared page information stored in the second storage system; and executing read or write operations made to the second storage system based on the second shared page information.

Abstract: A virtual storage system according to an aspect of the present invention includes multiple storage systems each including: a storage controller that accepts a read/write request for reading or writing from and to a logical volume; and multiple storage devices. The storage system defines a pool that manages the storage device capable of allocating any of storage areas to the logical volume, and manages the capacity (pool capacity) of the storage areas belonging to the pool, and the capacity (pool available capacity) of unused storage areas in the pool. Abstract: A storage system according to the present invention has a plurality of flash packages equipped with a deduplication function. When a storage controller transmits a write data and a feature value of write data to a flash package, the flash package compares contents of the write data with data having a same feature value as the feature value of the write data. As a result of the comparison, if there is no corresponding data, the write data is stored in the flash memory, but if there is a corresponding data, the new data will not be stored. Thus, a greater number of data can be stored in the flash memory while preventing deterioration of performance.
