The system includes devices for digital data output, protection-and-controlling, component controlling-and-monitoring, and communication. The digital data output devices input analogue AC electric values and output digital data. The protection-and-controlling devices input the data from the digital data output devices, and further control, monitor, and protect the substation main-circuit components. The component controlling-and-monitoring devices receive commands from the protection-and-controlling devices or from the substation controlling-and-monitoring equipment, and further control and monitor the substation main-circuit components. The devices for digital data output, the protection-and-controlling, and component controlling-and-monitoring are disposed near or within their corresponding substation main-circuit components.

Information recording area of an optical disk is divided radially into a plurality of recording areas with a boundary area interposed therebetween. The boundary area is formed as either a high-reflection area that presents a higher reflection light level than the divided recording areas or a low-reflection area that presents a lower reflection light level than the divided recording areas. When an instruction is given to move an optical head from a current point to the target point over the optical disk, a seek operation is performed up to the start point of one of the divided recording areas that contains the target point, while detecting, on the basis of a variation in the reflection light level, the boundary area located between another one of the divided recording areas that contains the current point and the divided recording area containing the target point. Then, a further seek operation is performed up to the target point by calculating a distance, from the start point of the divided recording area containing the target point, to the target point. With this arrangement, a method is provided which can perform an appropriate seek operation at high speed even on an optical disk that mixedly includes areas of different recording densities.

The surface of a steel material is irradiated with ion beams, held at a temperature of 100.degree.-400.degree. C. and then subjected to vapor deposition plating in vacuo. The vapor deposition plating may be performed by successively or simultaneously depositing different plating metals. The temperature control may use the sensible heat of the steel material, wherein the vapor deposition plating is applied to the surface of the steel material, which is in the temperature range of 100.degree.-400.degree. C. during cooling after ion beam irradiation, in a vacuum atmosphere. Since the surface of the steel material is held at a temperature of 100.degree.-400.degree.C., a lot of active spots remain on the surface. The active spots serve as starting points for the vapor deposition of the plating metals. The obtained plating layer is excellent in adhesiveness, workability, corrosion resistance and conformability to paint.

An image recording method wherein an image recorded on a thermal developing photosensitive material is transferred to an image-receiving material in the presence of an image forming solvent so as to be formed on the image-receiving material. A water absorbent applicator member which retains the image forming solvent is allowed to come in and out of contact with the surface of either the thermal developing photosensitive material or the image-receiving material, which are moving. Also disclosed is an apparatus suitably employed to carry out the above-described image recording method. The apparatus has driving means for activating the water absorbent applicator member retaining the image forming solvent to move between an application position at which the applicator member applies the image forming solvent to the surface of either the thermal developing photosensitive material or the image-receiving material, which are moving, and a retraction position which is spaced apart from the application position. Thus, the amount of application of the image forming solvent is appropriately controlled.

Latex reagents for quantitative assay of a variety of steroid hormones or metabolites thereof which are contained in body fluid or excreted fluid of human beings comprise latex particles which are immunologically sensitized with a conjugate selected from a variety of steroid-serum albumin conjugates in which the steroid to be detected is bonded to serum albumin in a very small ratio ranging from 0.5 to 7 molecules per 1 molecule of the serum albumin used.Sensitization of latex particles with such a conjugate is performed using a limited amount dependent on the bonding ratio of steroid molecules per molecule of serum albumin in the conjugate and the particle size of the latex used.The latex reagents show very high sensitivity amounting to 0.2-0.04 nmole steroid equivalent/ml.
