摘要: [Problem] In the case where variations of environmental temperature or variations with time occur depending on characteristics of a light-emitting element, variations are generated in luminance. In the invention, a display device for suppressing effects due to variations of a current value of a light-emitting element, which is caused by variations of environmental temperature and variations with time. [Solving Means] A first substrate having a pixel portion in which pixels constituted by a plurality of transistors are arranged in matrix has a source driver for supplying a video signal, a gate driver for selecting a pixel, a power source circuit, and a compensation circuit for compensating variations in characteristics of a light-emitting element. The first substrate is connected to a second substrate through a connecting wire, and the second substrate has a controller and a video memory. The controller is a piece for making a signal which is necessary for a display device to display from image data to be inputted externally such as a CPU by using a video memory as required.

摘要: A touch panel using an optical sensor has a simple construction and can accurately detect an input position. An illuminating lights emitted from illuminating means are turned into lights having a high directivity in an X-axis direction and in a Y-axis direction of the prism lens sheet and thereafter enter from side faces of a light guide panel as incident lights. The incident lights advance in the inside of the light guide panel toward opposite side faces while being subjected to a total reflection and are received by the optical sensor arrays. When an input pen or a fingertip touches a surface of the light guide panel, the lights are refracted or absorbed at a touched position and hence, a quantity of received lights at the optical sensor arrays is reduced.

摘要: In a conventional display device using light emitting elements, white color cannot be accurately displayed since the luminance of each sub-pixel varies for each color. Therefore, in order to achieve the uniformity in luminance of each sub-pixel, the amount of current or the current density flowing in light emitting elements is required to be changed for each color. In that case, a power source is necessarily provided for each color, thus an external circuit is increased, leading to increase in the cost and power consumption. According to the invention, a variable channel-size MOS transistor is used as a transistor for driving a light emitting element. When a signal voltage applied to a control gate is controlled for each sub-pixel, the amount of current or the current density flowing in light emitting elements can be adjusted and luminance of each sub-pixel can also be adjusted for each color.

摘要: A display method and device obtains advantages of both an analog gray scale method and a digital gray scale method by performing display in multiple display modes. In a display mode-specific video signal generation circuit, an input video signal is output, as an analog value without any change, as a binary digital value, and as a multi-valued digital value. As a result, the display mode changes in a timely manner. Accordingly, a clear image can be displayed. In other words, an analog signal and a digital signal are switched and input to a source driver. In addition, the display device also switches and outputs an analog signal and a digital signal such that the display device can have the advantages of both the analog gray scale method and the digital gray scale method.

摘要: It is an object to provide a display device in which a problem of light leakage from a liquid crystal element in black display is reduced or overcome and the contrast is improved. It is another object to provide a pixel circuit having a function to control a lighting state of a backlight based on each pixel. These objects are achieved by turning off a light-emitting element in display of a black gray scale, and by providing a light-emitting element in each pixel and providing, in a pixel circuit, a function to individually control lighting and non-lighting of the light-emitting element depending on a gray scale to perform display. When a backlight is provided in each pixel, a light-emitting element that is a backlight is turned off when a black gray scale is displayed, whereby reduction in contrast due to light leakage from a liquid crystal element can be prevented.
