The stent can be positioned around the balloon and another layer of the bioactive material posited over the entire structure and extending beyond the ends of the positioned stent. The ends of the balloon extend beyond the ends of the stent and include the bioactive material thereon for delivering the bioactive material to the cells of a vessel wall coming in contact therewith. The balloon further includes a layer of hydrophilic material (58) positioned between the base and bioactive material layers of the balloon.

An apparatus and method to produce radiopaque medical implants such as catheters, stents, or other implants. A composition of a radiopaque brominated polyurethane coat and a polyurethane tubing core is formed. In one embodiment, the polyurethane coat includes a diisocyanate and a brominated diol having a bromine concentration of 30% or more. The coat is applied to the elastomeric polyurethane tubing core surface. The medical implant takes advantage of employing a brominated radiopaque polyurethane with the tensile properties, for example of flexibility and kink resistance, of the elastomeric thermoplastic polyurethane tubing core without degrading these desirable characteristics.

Medical devices that incorporate compounds containing fluorine-19 materials for use as contrast agents and passive markers in interventional magnetic resonance angiography. The device may be a guidewire, guiding catheter, angioplasty catheter, stent, embolic protection device, endovascular graft, endotracheal tube, Foley catheter, Hickman catheter, Broviac catheter, cerebrospinal fluid shunt, biliary stent, stylet, biopsy needle, electrode, percutaneous or endoluminal transducer or other desired interventional medical device. The fluorine-19 material may be configured from an elastomer, a fluid, a fluorosilicone, or a perfluorocarbon grease or oil. Such materials may be incorporated into marker bands and/or stripes, or may be deposited into or dispersed within the walls or lumens of the medical device to be visualized. Use of fluorine-19 containing markers and contrast agents provide a novel method of performing angioplasty and deploying stents, grafts, embolic protection and other such devices using interventional magnetic resonance angiography.

A drug-loaded medical device, a preparation method therefor, a drug balloon and a method of preparing a drug coating are disclosed. The medical device or the drug balloon is provided on a surface thereof with a drug coating including a stabilizer and a drug. The stabilizer includes an amphiphilic triblock polymer with hydrophilic segments at both terminals, and the drug coating forms a nano-drug particle suspension in a water-soluble environment. In this way, the prepared nano-drug coating has high drug loading and can deliver the drug in a desirable way. In particular, when it comes into contact with water, the drug can be restored to the original nano size, almost without any particle size increase. This not only avoids the risk of embolism caused by granules, but also enables higher device safety, increased drug uptake and improved therapeutic effects.
