    摘要: In the present invention, there is provided a method for producing a self-supporting ceramic or ceramic composite body by the oxidation of a parent metal to form a polycrystalline ceramic material comprising the oxidation reaction product of said parent metal with an oxidant, including a vapor-phase oxidant, and optionally one or more metallic constituents dispersed throughout the polycrystalline ceramic material. The method comprises the steps of providing at least a portion of said parent metal with a barrier means at least partially spaced from said parent metal for establishing at least one surface of the ceramic body, and heating said parent metal to a temperature above its melting point but below the melting point of the oxidation reaction product to form a body of molten metal. At that temperature, the molten metal is reacted with the oxidant, thus forming the oxidation reaction product. At least a portion of the oxidation reaction product is maintained in contact with and between the molten metal and oxidant to transport the molten metal through the oxidation reaction product toward the barrier means and into contact with fresh oxidant so that the oxidation reaction product continues to form at and interface between the oxidant and previously formed oxidation reaction product. The reaction is continued until the oxidation reaction product contacts the barrier means to produce a ceramic body having the surface established by the barrier means. A shaped ceramic composite is formed by superimposing a barrier means either a loose mass of filler material such as a preform to, and infiltrating the mass of filler or preform with the polycrystalline ceramic matrix, which grows until it contacts the barrier means.

    摘要: A method of making shaped articles from powders comprises forming a cup mold of a destructible organic polymeric material such as nylon, cellulose acetate, poly(methyl methacrylate), polypropylene or polyethylene. The inner surface of the mold corresponds in configuration with the outer surface configuration desired in the shaped article. This mold is placed in a support member and filled with a measured quantity of powder. A plunger composed of a metal having a high specific gravity is placed on top of the powder, and the mold, mold support, powder and plunger combination is positioned in the swing bucket of a centrifugal apparatus where it is subjected to centrifugal force sufficient to achieve the desired degree of compaction of the powder. The mold is then removed and subjected to treatment at a temperature which is sufficient in the first instance to destroy the polymeric mold material, and then sufficient to sinter the powder. If desired, the surface of the plunger making contact with the powder may be shaped so as to provide a pattern on the powder surface, or to impart a chamfered surface to the powder.

    摘要: Fuel bodies, fuel elements and absorber elements for high temperature reactors are produced by isostatic pressing of a mixture of binder containing a graphite powder and encased coated fuel particles and/or absorber particles at high compression ratios wherein the pressing process is carried out in a plurality of pressing steps with stepwise increasing compression so that in each pressing step a fixed compression takes place which is so selected that there is not required a specific vacuum step or deaeration step in the powdery condition and the air compressed in the pressing process can escape from the porous pressed article without injuring the structure and that a higher pressure is employed from pressing step to pressing step until the final compression and that in a first pressing step there is preformed in a rubber mold with a suitable cavity at low pressure kernels of the pressed article from a homogeneous mixture of encased, coated fuel particles and/or absorber particles and binder containing graphite molding powder and this preformed kernels embedded in a coating of binder containing graphite molding powder in a second pressing step in a second rubber mold with a suitable cavity are prepressed at low pressure, and in a third pressing step this preformed article is finally pressed at high pressure in a further rubber mold having a suitable cavity.

    摘要: A press tool has an elongated mould cavity for the production of bodies by compression of powder enclosed in the mould cavity. The mould cavity is formed by an elastomeric sheath within a support cylinder arrangement which is mounted in a high pressure cylinder with a space therebetween. The interior of the support cylinder arrangement communicates through lateral openings with such space. The space, which is filled with pressure fluid, has a narrow part opposite the openings and a larger part in which a compression piston is slidable. An ejection mechanism is composed of a cylinder having an eccentric bore turnably mounted beneath the mould cavity with a piston projecting therefrom, the position of which is radially adjustably by turning the cylinder. The device is placed between two relatively movable press parts, one of which carries a member which projects into the mould cavity while the other engages the compression piston.

Resist may be applied first to the workpiece, the stamp, or substantially simultaneously, in discrete locations, or over the entire surface of either. The resist dewets the substrate completely where desired.

The mold and cutter combination may have an elasticity sufficient to release molded material therefrom by hand stretching, wherein the cutting edge, inner cutting blade surface, and the inner surface of the sidewall of the mold cavity are stretched by an amount sufficient to release the molded material.
