    摘要: One or more digital filters in the output of an echo detector in a radar or sonar system are periodically checked for correct operation by the application of a test signal to their input and the comparison of a resulting output signal with a predetermined response code stored in a read-only memory. If the comparison fails, a visual indicator is actuated; if the defective filter is one of a plurality, it is blocked and the gain of the echo detector is adjusted to compensate for the reduction in signal level. With two filters in respective circuit branches carrying detected echo signals in relative quadrature, these filters are tested alternately; failure of either of them may cause its automatic replacement by a standby filter.

    摘要: A circuit for detecting the failure of a system to respond in a planned manner to a binary control signal includes a circuit for generating a check signal which normally changes in phase with the control signal. The failure detect circuit includes inverters for generating inverted control and check signals. AND gates compare each signal with the inverted form of the other. A NOR gate produces a failure-indicating signal when an equality is sensed.

    摘要: The failure state, due to disconnection or grounding of resistors connected in parallel, is checked in such a way that diodes are connected in series, respectively between the resistors and a common terminal for the parallel connection. A check signal is supplied to the other common terminal for the parallel connection, and the signals appearing at the connection points between the resistors and the diode are compared with the supplied check signal by using a logic circuit such as an AND gate.

    摘要: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a functional self-test, including (1) generation of an excitation signal, (2) applying the excitation signal to a unit under test (UUT), the excitation signal including a cyclical signal for a first interval and substantially zero signal for a second interval, (3) determining frequency content of a UUT response signal, and (4) generating a fail result in response to the frequency content below a predetermined threshold. In an illustrative example, the UUT may be a piezoelectric element (PE). The UUT response signal may be processed by a filter, for example. A portion of the filtered UUT response signal, responding to the second interval of the excitation signal, may be analyzed by a fast Fourier transform module (FFTm), for example. In various implementations, the functional self-test may advantageously determine the health of a piezoelectric gas sensing element, periodically, in a field-deployed implementation.

    摘要: An emergency medical device (20) (e.g., an external defibrillator/monitor) employing an emergency medical subsystem (21) for executing an emergency medical procedure (e.g., a monitoring subsystem (21) and a therapy subsystem (21)), and an emergency medical controller (23) for controlling an activation of the emergency medical subsystem (21). The subsystem (21) includes one or more operational components (22). In operation, the controller (23) conditionally actuates a device readiness indicator (24) (e.g., auditory or visual) indicative of an operational readiness of the operational component(s) (22), and conditionally actuates a failure warning indicator (25) (e.g., auditory or visual) indicative of a pending failure of the operational readiness of the operational component(s) (22). The failure warning indicator (25) may be actuated based on a predictive failure analysis of a premature degradation of the operational component(s) (22), a repeated occurrence of error conditions of the operational component(s) (22) (particularly recoverable error conditions), and a shortened reliable life of the operational component(s) (22).
