A hydrodynamic bearing device capable of inhibiting leakage of a working fluid to an outside of a bearing and preventing reduction in radial bearing rigidity, and capable of keeping a gap between a thrust bearing and a radial bearing favorable and rotating stably. The hydrodynamic bearing device includes a shaft relatively rotatably inserted into a bearing hole of a sleeve, a radial bearing surface having dynamic pressure generating grooves formed on at least one of an outer peripheral surface of the shaft and an inner peripheral surface of the sleeve, and a gap filled with a working fluid between the shaft and the sleeve. The shaft is made of high manganese chrome steel or stainless steel, and the sleeve is entirely made of sintered metal of metal particles including at least 60% by weight of iron or copper. Resin, metal or water glass is impregnated in pores on a surface of the sintered metal and cured. Thereby, leakage of the working fluid to the outside of the bearing from the sleeve can be inhibited, and reduction in the pressure inside the bearing can be prevented.

The invention provides a special type bearing device that is insusceptible to damage, is light in weight, has a long service life and excellent wear resistance, is insusceptible to the effect of change in temperature, is easy to fabricate, and has little offensiveness towards mating members. Further, the same is capable of sufficiently retaining a lubricant such as oil and grease, and retaining the lubricant for a long period of time without the need of supplying oil during operation, thereby rendering it maintenance-free. An oil-impregnant sintered bearing is made by providing an internal diameter, which a rotating axis member is inserted through, in a bearing main body, formed by a porous sintered alloy having internal pores therein, and providing a sliding face in one region of the inner peripheral face of the internal diameter, the sliding face being obtained by closing the pores which have been opened in the inner peripheral face. The density in a section preserving oil pressure, which extends from the sliding face of the bearing main body toward the outer side of the diameter, is made higher than the density in other sections of the bearing main body.
