Abstract: A disclosed method is performed at a first boundary node bordering a BIER domain. The method includes receiving a message associated with a source and group for multicast from outside the BIER domain. The method further includes generating an encapsulated message based on the message, a metric, and a first proxy address of the first boundary node. The method also includes forwarding the encapsulated message through the BIER domain to at least one second boundary node bordering the BIER domain and connectable to the first boundary node. The first boundary node additionally triggers the at least one second boundary node to decapsulate the encapsulated message for forwarding out of the first domain and store a record including the source, the group, the metric representing the cost of the first boundary node to the source, and the first proxy address on the at least one second boundary node.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a virtual local area network. The method includes determining a global virtual local area network for transmitting a broadcast data frame in response to receiving the broadcast data frame at a first switch, encapsulating the broadcast data frame based at least in part on said determination and transmitting it to at least one second switch over the determined global virtual local area network. The broadcast data frame is received at the second switch and an identifier of the global virtual local area network is obtained according to the broadcast data frame. Based at least in part on the identifier of the global virtual local area network, it is determined that which local virtual local area network served by the second switch the de-capsulated broadcast data frame can be sent to.

Abstract: A method of multicasting packets by a forwarding element that includes several packet replicators and several egress pipelines. Each packet replicator receives a data structure associated with a multicast packet that identifies a multicast group. Each packet replicator identifies a first physical egress port of a first egress pipeline for sending the multicast packet to a member of the multicast group. The first physical egress port is a member of LAG. Each packet replicator determines that the first physical egress port is not operational and identifies a second physical port in the LAG for sending the multicast packet to the member of the multicast group. When a packet replicator is connected to the same egress pipeline as the second physical egress, the packet replicator provides the identification of the second physical egress port to the egress pipeline to send the packet to the multicast member. Otherwise the packet replicator drops the packet.

Abstract: A source node in a first domain in a multi-domain network includes a plurality of ports; and switching circuitry configured to forward packets between the plurality of ports, wherein the source node is configured to, for a packet destined for a destination node in another domain in the multi-domain network, add a list of Segment Identifiers (SIDs) to the packet for loose source-based routing from the source node, through the first domain, and to the another domain, and forward the packet via a port of the plurality of ports and with the list of SIDs, wherein the list of SIDs includes at least one SID representing both an anycast SID and a binding SID. The SID is associated with an anycast group that includes a plurality of nodes, and with a binding segment in the second domain, the binding segment includes a different SID list for each node of the plurality of nodes.

Abstract: A communication system includes at least one first device having a communication function, at least one second device having a communication function, and a communication apparatus that communicates with the first device within the same network, forms a tunnel network together with the opposite second device and virtually communicates with the second device in the same network segment via the tunnel network, executes IGMP snooping and analyzes a multicast transfer policy, and controls packet transfer according to the multicast transfer policy for a packet to be transferred in communication between the first device and the second device. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a communication system that can maintain communication quality, improve usability, and suppress a failure.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems are provided for improving utilization of a communications system through various atom-based techniques for enhancing the viewing experience for Internet protocol content. Some embodiments exploit atom-based processing to determine which content atoms to broadcast (e.g., multicast) over which channels to which subscribers. Other embodiments make atom-based filtering, caching, and/or other determinations at the user terminal. For example, low-level (e.g., physical layer) filtering may be used to limit the amount of user-layer processing needed, and to facilitate delivery of content to those users most likely to desire that content. Still other embodiments allow users to create customized channels of cached content for viewing as a shared channel. Embodiments include techniques for addressing synchronization of channel content and viewing, and social networking, for subscribers to the shared channel. The shared channels may be further used to facilitate social networking among subscribers.
