Abstract:
Some general aspects relate to secured means for managing and delivering personal information, for example, in the context of electronic commerce. A request from a first entity to encrypt personal information includes a first specification of the personal information to be encrypted. An encrypted specification of the personal information is then generated according to an encoding strategy. The encrypted specification of the personal information is provided to the first entity for subsequent use by a personal information user. A second entity sends a request to decrypt the encrypting specification of the personal information. Upon determining that the second entity is an authorized personal information receiver, a decrypted specification of the personal information is formed according to a decoding strategy determined based on an analysis of the encrypted specification. This decrypted specification of the personal information is then provided to the second entity.
Abstract:
A crystalline structure of glutaminyl cyclase (QC) is described. Also described are the methods of preparing the crystalline structure of QC and the methods for identifying candidate inhibitors of QC. In addition, a structural basis for the rational design or identification of new inhibitors that may be used to treat QC-associated disorders is also described.
Abstract:
Novel phosphonate compounds are described. The compounds have activity as neuraminidase inhibitors against wild-type and H274Y mutant of H1N1 and H5N1 viruses. The present disclosure also provides an enantioselective synthetic route to known neuraminidase inhibitors oseltamivir and the anti-flu drug Tamiflu®, as well as novel phosphonate compounds, via D-xylose. Another efficient and flexible synthesis of Tamiflu and the highly potent neuraminidase inhibitor Tamiphosphor was also achieved in 11 steps and >20% overall yields from the readily available fermentation product (1S-cis)-3-bromo-3,5 -cyclohexadiene-1,2-diol. Most of the reaction intermediates were obtained as crystals without tedious purification procedures. The key transformations include an initial regio- and stereoselective bromoamidation of a bromoarene cis-dihydrodiol, as well as the final palladium-catalyzed carbonylation and phosphonylation.
Abstract:
Multiplex barcoded Paired-End Ditag (mbPED) library construction for ultra high throughput sequencing is disclosed. The mbPED library comprises multiple types of barcoded Paired-End Ditag (bPED) nucleic acid fragment constructs, each of which comprises a unique barcoded adaptor, a first tag, and a second tag linked to the first tag via the barcoded adaptor. The two tags are the 5′- and 3′-ends of a nucleic acid molecule from which they originate. The barcoded adaptor comprises a barcode, a first polynucleotide sequence comprising a first restriction enzyme (RE) recognition site, and a second polynucleotide sequence comprising a second RE recognition site and covalently linked to the first polynucleotide sequence via the barcode. The two REs lead to cleavage of a nucleic acid at a defined distance from their recognition sites. The length of the adaptor is set so that the bPED nucleic acid fragment fits one-step sequencing.
Abstract:
A method of making a quantum dot memory cell, the quantum dot memory cell including an array of quantum dots disposed between a first electrode and a second electrode, includes obtaining values for a tunneling current through the quantum dot memory cell as a function of a voltage applied to the quantum dot memory cell and selecting parameters of the quantum dot memory cell such that the tunneling current through the quantum dot memory cell exhibits a bistable current for at least some values of the voltage applied to the quantum dot memory cell. The values for the tunneling current are determined on the basis of a density of states of the array of quantum dots.
Abstract:
A vector for expressing a soluble glutaminyl cyclase (QC) in bacterial cells is described. The vector contains a sequence encoding a fusion QC, which has a fusion protein tag selected from a Nus protein tag or a thioredoxin (Trx) tag, a QC, and a linker having at least one (His)x-tag between the QC and the fusion protein tag, in which x is an integer of at least 6. Methods for expressing a soluble glutaminyl cyclase (QC) by the vector are also described.
Abstract:
Non-human animal models for frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions (FTLD-U) are disclosed. The invention relates to a transgenic mouse whose genome comprises a transgene operably linked to a neuronal specific promoter effective for an increased expression of the transgene in the brain of the mouse, in which the transgene comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43). The transgenic mouse exhibits reduced or impaired learning and memory capacity, and may further exhibits progressively impaired or reduced motor functions. Methods of using such animal models are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical multi-axis linear displacement measurement system and a method thereof, and the system can detect the reflected light from the top surface of the object so as to obtain multi-axis linear displacements of the object. The optical multi-axis linear displacement measurement system utilizes a non-contact optical method for obtaining multi-axis linear displacements of the object and it can perform simultaneous multi-axis linear displacement measurements. The advantages of the system and method include: high response speed (bandwidth) for dynamic measurement, simple structure, cost effective, and high sensitivity for displacement measurements.
