Abstract:
A flow control including an annular flexible member and an internal post disposed downstream of the flexible member is described. The annular flexible member has a deflectable inner edge that defines a passage channel and the annular flexible member and internal post define a control gap therebetween wherein the deflectable inner edge of the annular flexible member deflects axially under increasing fluid pressure to reduce the control gap and consequently control fluid flow.
Abstract:
A turbine blade includes an airfoil having pressure and suction sidewalls extending between leading and trailing edges and root and tip. The tip includes squealer ribs extending from a tip floor forming an open tip cavity. The rib along the pressure sidewall has a squared external corner, and a flute extends along the base of the rib at the tip floor.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the field of glycosylation engineering of proteins. More particularly, the present invention relates to glycosylation engineering to generate proteins with improved therapeutic properties, including antibodies with increased antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity.
Abstract:
A combination valve including a valve body having an inverted bi-directional valve portion and an umbrella portion is disclosed. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a combination valve includes a valve body with a substantially cylindrical portion defining a flow path, a resilient umbrella valve portion extending annularly from the valve body and an inverted bi-directional valve portion provided in the flow path. The inverted bi-directional valve portion includes an interior surface, an exterior surface and at least one normally closed slit extending therebetween, wherein the exterior surface of the inverted bi-directional valve portion includes a generally concave curved portion when the slit is closed.
Abstract:
Scanned image content is analyzed by identifying and quantifying each of a number of pixel categories in sub-regions of a rectangular grid defined over the scanned-in image data. The counts or other quantities are compared with predetermined pixel distributions, and the sub-regions are characterized in response to the comparison. An image processing operation that depends upon the characterization can then be performed.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a filter with a main signal path having one or more biquadratic filter sections is tuned using a tuning circuit based on a biquadratic filter that can be configured to oscillate at the filter's cutoff frequency. In one application, a tuning circuit outside of the main signal path is used to tune each biquadratic filter section of the main signal path. In another application, each filter section along the main signal path has a biquadratic filter that can oscillate and corresponding tuning elements that enable the filter section to tune itself. According to certain embodiments of the present invention, a biquadratic filter is made to oscillate by applying a common-mode voltage signal to the inputs of the filter's third transconductor cell to make the cell's transconductance go to zero. The invention may also be implemented in the context of filters having ladder structures in their main signal path.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for selectively electroplating the tip portion of an airfoil. The airfoil includes a root portion and a blade portion having a tip. At least part of the blade including the tip is coated with an insulating material. Insulating material is removed from the tip and the airfoil is mounted in a fixture so that the tip is exposed. The fixture is immersed in a sealing bath, and the fixture and at least a portion of the airfoil is encased in sealing material while leaving the tip exposed. The fixture is then immersed in an electroplating bath, the exposed tip is electroplated, and the fixture is removed from the bath.
Abstract:
The present invention provides, with reference to FIG. 2, an amphibian operable in land and marine modes, the amphibian comprising a hull, at least one discontinuity (wheel bay) provided in the hull, and at least one retractable wheel or track assembly at least partially located in the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay). The hull is a planing hull, and the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay) is provided in the front half of the hull of the amphibian. The amphibian further comprises at least one conduit which opens, or is provided with an entry which opens, into or at the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay) and is configured for channelling, in use, fluid away from the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay).
