Abstract: The invention concerns a spinning preparatory machine with suspended pivotable flyers arranged in at least one row. The flyers are supported in a frame composed of a longitudinal beam and two arms and arranged at right angles thereto, which frame is pivotable about a pivoting axis between an operating position and a doffing position. A pivoting and loading system is connected with the frame in such a manner that the frame is locked in its operating position. The spinning preparatory machine according to the invention shows, among others, the advantage of an accurate positioning of the pivotable flyers in a locked operating position, high operational reliability and affords safety against accidents from occurring.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of modifying a surface of a lithium electrode, e.g. a negative lithium electrode, for a battery cell. The method comprises the step of applying a thin layer of a carbonaceous material onto the surface of the lithium electrode. The method further comprises the step of applying a pressure to the thin layer and to the surface to promote tight contact between the surface and the thin layer. The method further comprises the step of storing the thin layer and the lithium electrode in an atmosphere comprising carbon dioxide (CO2) gas for a period of time sufficient to significantly lithiate carbon of the carbonaceous material into an intercalation compound having the formula LixC6. A battery cell, e.g. a secondary (rechargeable) battery cell, comprises the lithium electrode made by the method of the present invention.

Abstract: A method for depositing a thin film includes the steps of providing a vapor including at least one selected vapor phase component into an evacuated chamber and condensing the vapor onto a heated substrate to form a liquid phase deposit wherein a temperature of the substrate is lower than the condensation temperature of the component. The liquid deposit is then cooled to produce a solid phase film. The invention can provide two or more vapor phase components. The invention can be used to deposit a wide variety of layers, including thin films of metallic, semiconductor and nonmetallic inorganic materials. The invention is useful for forming solid electrolytes and the electrodes for batteries, fuel cells and other electromagnetically active devices.
