Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system including a base station and terminal device, supporting a virtual carrier mode with downlink communications made by the base station using a radio interface spanning a system frequency bandwidth while the terminal device can receive at least some communications from the base station within a restricted subset of transmission resources selected from within the system frequency bandwidth providing a restricted bandwidth downlink. The terminal device can measure channel conditions across the system frequency bandwidth and transmit corresponding measurement reports to the base station. Measurement reports for transmission resources not including the restricted bandwidth downlink channel may be aperiodic while measurement reports for transmission resources including the restricted bandwidth downlink channel may be periodic. Measurement reports for transmission resources not including the restricted bandwidth downlink channel may be based on a subset of the channel condition measurements selected because they are associated with relatively poor channel conditions.

Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system includes base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system supporting the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.

Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system that comprises a base station and a terminal device communicating over a radio interface. The radio interface supports a downlink control channel for conveying control messages from the base station to the terminal device and a downlink data channel (e.g. a physical downlink shared channel) for conveying higher-layer messages from the base station to the terminal device. The control messages convey information on resource allocations for the higher-layer messages on the downlink data channel. The terminal device is configured to receive a control message from the base station conveying an indication of allocated transmission resources on the downlink data channel and determine a validity period for the control-plane message. During the validity period for the control message the terminal device is configured to receive a plurality of different higher-layer messages from the base station on the downlink data channel using the allocated transmission resources.

Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system comprises a base station arranged to communicate messages to one or more terminal devices over a radio interface. The radio interface has a radio frame structure comprising a plurality of subframes, wherein a message may be transmitted in accordance with a first transmission scheme using transmission resources in a first number of radio subframes (e.g. one subframe) or transmitted in accordance with a second transmission scheme using transmission resources in a second number of radio subframes (e.g. with repeat transmissions in a plurality of subframes). The message is transmitted in association with an identifier to indicate a terminal device to which the message is addressed. A characteristic for the identifier, for example a value or control region search space for the identifier, is dependent on whether the message is to be transmitted in accordance with the first transmission scheme or the second transmission scheme. A terminal device to which the message is addressed determines the transmission scheme from the characteristic of the identifier and receives the message accordingly.

Abstract: Apparatus and method providing feedback on channel conditions in a wireless telecommunications system including a base station arranged to communicate with plural terminals device using frequencies spanning a system frequency bandwidth. At least one terminal device is a reduced capability terminal device including a tuneable transceiver configured to receive downlink transmissions from the base station using only a restricted frequency bandwidth which is smaller than and within the system frequency bandwidth. The reduced capability terminal device is configured to communicate information derived from measurements of channel conditions to the base station. The information may include an indication of measured channel conditions for the different frequency locations, or an indication of one or more frequency locations for which the corresponding measurement of channel conditions meet a pre-defined selection criterion. The base station subsequently schedules downlink transmissions for the terminal device in taking account of the information received from the terminal device.

Abstract: A communications device can transmit and receive data via a wireless access interface provided by a mobile communications network including an infrastructure equipment for transmitting signals to or receiving signals from the communications device. The wireless access interface provides a primary carrier within a first frequency range, which forms a primary cell providing a contiguous set of communications resources across the first frequency range and providing one or more control channels for transmitting signaling message to the communications device or receiving signaling messages from the infrastructure equipment. A controller in combination with a receiver and transmitter can receive from the infrastructure equipment a signaling message identifying a nested carrier including one or more candidate channels selected from a predefined plurality of candidate channels within a second frequency range which is different to and mutually exclusive from the first frequency range.

Abstract: A communications terminal includes a transmitter to transmit signals, a receiver to receive signals, and a controller to control the transmitter and receiver. The controller includes an input buffer receiving data packets for transmission. The controller can identify whether the received data packets are delay tolerant or non-delay tolerant, to determine a current state for communications for transmitting the data packets and based on predetermined conditions including a current state for radio communications, an amount of the delay tolerant data packets in the input buffer, and an amount of the non-delay tolerant packets in the input buffer, either transmit the non-delay tolerant data packets or transmit the non-delay tolerant data packets and the delay tolerant data packets from the input buffer to a mobile communications network using the transmitter, or maintain the delay tolerant or non-delay tolerant data packets in the input buffer until the predetermined conditions are satisfied.

Additional methods assign UEs a group identity by implicit signalling, and determine the aggregation level of the group-based PDCCH search space.
