    摘要: The present invention provides a dispersant and foaming agent combination that is useful in the production of gypsum wallboard and other aqueous cementitious products. The dispersant in the combination according to the invention is a naphthalene sulfonate-aldehyde condensate alkali salt polymer having a weight average molecular weight of from about 17,000 to about 47,000. The alkali is preferably an alkali metal and/or an alkaline earth metal. The aldehyde is preferably formaldehyde. The foaming agent used in the combination according to the invention is a soap, preferably an alkali salt of an alkyl ether sulfate and/or an alkyl sulfate. The combination of a high molecular weight dispersant and a foaming agent produces a gypsum wallboard core effect that more efficiently entrains air (i.e., creates void space), thereby lowering overall board weight without detrimentally affecting strength.

An adjusting output sub-section 7b transmits signals for adjusting the thickness to a thickness-adjusting means 9 on the basis of the above comparison result, to control the thickness of the slurry raw material applied onto the carrier film 3.

A cylindrical housing includes, in its upper end, an inlet for a slurry and a helical diverter for directing the slurry in a downward spiral flow path. An inlet for aqueous foam in located in said diverter and directs the foam into the incoming slurry. An annular flow restrictor is located in the lower end of the housing. Turbulence resulting from diversion of the incoming slurry from linear flow to a downward spiral flow path and from changes in spin diameter and speed through the flow restrictor uniformly mix foam with the slurry.

    摘要: A coated glass mat comprises a glass mat substrate having non-woven glass fibers and a coating which essentially uniformly penetrates the glass mat substrate to desired fractional thickness of the coated glass mat. The coating imparts a tensile strength to the coated glass mat which on average is at least 1.33 times greater than the tensile strength of the glass mat substrate without the coating. In example embodiments, penetration of the coating into the glass mat substrate preferably extends to a depth of from twenty five percent of a thickness of the coated glass mat to seventy five percent of the thickness of the coated glass mat. Moreover, a non-coated thickness of the coated glass mat is sufficiently thick for bonding purposes with, e.g., a gypsum slurry or other core materials such as thermoplastic or thermosetting plastics. The coating has a porosity in a range of from 1.3 CFM to 5.0 CFM, e.g., the coating comprises a coating blend which provides the coated glass mat with a porosity sufficient to allow water vapor to escape from a gypsum slurry when heated. The coating is preferably a coating blend comprised of water, latex binder, inorganic pigment, and inorganic binder.

    摘要: An apparatus for use in the manufacture of plasterboard (100) having at least a first side faced with a facing liner (2), a cementitious core (1) and an opposite side faced with a backing liner (4), includes a support surface (3) with a required surface finish to support the facing liner (2) and the first side of the plasterboard, pressurized fluid supply means to supply a fluid at above atmospheric pressure and at least one fluid directing means (5) to direct the pressurized fluid from the pressurized fluid supply means onto the opposite side of the plasterboard after the cementitious core (1) has partially set but before it has set to a knife set point. The pressurized fluid exerts a substantially uniform pressure on the backing liner (4) and the opposite side of the plasterboard, thereby smoothing the facing liner (2) and the first side of said plasterboard by urging them toward the support surface (3).
