The present invention includes cement compositions and methods for using such cement compositions to coat pipe surfaces, particularly usefull for providing protection from hostile conditions that may otherwise lead to corrosion of the pipe surface. These cement compositions have improved mechanical properties including tensile strength, elasticity, and ductility.

A wet-formed permeable mat composed of wet use chopped strands (WUCS), chopped roving, and potentially unidirectional roving coupled with an alkaline resistant binder are combined to create an randomly oriented open mat structure with a high degree of openness that can be used in cement backerboard applications. The cement backerboard that is subsequently formed from the wet-formed permeable mat has lower binder content, superior decorative finish, and better permeability control than known glass scrim systems and can be produced in a single continuous step.
Abstract:
This invention provides facing materials for cementitious boards such as those including Portland cement or gypsum cores. The preferred facing material includes, in a first embodiment, a facing layer having an areal weight of about 300 grams/M2, and an air permeability rating of no greater than about 300 CFM/ft2 (FG 436-910 test method). The facing layer reduces the penetration of a slurry of cementitious material during the manufacture of a cementitious board, while permitting the water vapor from the slurry to pass therethrough. The facing materials of this invention can be designed to substantially eliminate the fouling of rolls used in continuous processing of such boards without the use, or with greatly reduced use, of costly viscosity control agents in the slurry. In addition, further embodiments of this invention can include binders, coatings or saturants which are designed to decrease pore size, increase or decrease the contact angle of liquids, or promote greater adhesion to cementitious cores, greater adhesion to other layers in the facing material, or greater adhesion or affinity to various types of adhesive compositions used to join cementitious boards to insulation and exterior finishing systems (EIS or EIFS).

The present invention may be embodied in a sandwich panel having first and second face panels each having a first predetermined thickness and being formed of a fiber-reinforced cementitious material. The sandwich panel further includes support frame for supporting the first and second face panels in a spaced apart configuration. The support frame is formed of a fiber-reinforced cementitious material that is continuous with the cementitious material of the first and second face panels. A composite fabric for use in reinforcement of cementitious boards and similar prefabricated building wall panels. The fabric includes an open mesh first component of continuously coated, high modulus of elasticity strands and a nonwoven second component fabricated from alkali resistant thermoplastic material. The high modulus strands of the first component are preferably bundled glass fibers encapsulated by alkali and water resistant thermoplastic material. The composite fabric also has suitable physical characteristics for embedment within the cement matrix of the panels or boards closely adjacent the opposed faces thereof. The reinforcement provides long-lasting, high strength tensile reinforcement and impact resistance for the panels or boards. The reinforcement also enables the boards to have smooth outer faces suitable for painting, papering, tiling or other finishing treatment. Included as part of the invention are methods for making the reinforcement, cementitious boards and panels including the reinforcement, and methods for manufacturing such boards and panels.

The present invention provides a lightweight fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin molding comprising a thermoplastic resin and having a skin layer and a beam-supported structure layer, the thermoplastic resin containing reinforcing fibers whose average fiber length is maintained at 1 mm or more, the skin layer having almost no voids, the beam-supported structure layer containing reinforcing fibers which are intertwined complicatedly with each other and are fixed to each other with the thermoplastic resin in the vicinity of their contacts, wherein the beams forming the beam-supported structure layer are arcuate as an aggregate in the plane direction of the molding, said a lightweight fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin molding having a high percentage of void and is lightweight and excellent in bending rigidity.

There is provided a facing sheet for cement boards comprising a scrim and polymer film. The scrim has a plurality of intersecting yarns defining an open mesh pattern with an inner face defining a grid profile for mechanical interaction with the cementitious composition of the cement board. The polymer film is joined to an outer face of the scrim and defines a repeating pattern of openings. The polymer film facilitates the mechanical interaction between the grid profile of the scrim and the cementitious composition and allows the passage of moisture from the cementitious composition during hardening of the cement board. The scrim may include glass fibers yarns and the polymer film may be formed by a gravure rolling process. A cement board may include a second facing sheet on a surface opposite the first facing sheet.
