摘要: A modular chassis is provided for an off-road vehicle to improve assembly, servicing, and repairing of a drivetrain of the off-road vehicle. The modular chassis includes a chassis to support components of the off-road vehicle. A front frame module couples with a front of the chassis, and a rear frame module couples with a rear of the chassis. The front frame module supports lower suspension arms of the off-road vehicle by way of inboard bushing joints. The front frame module supports at least a steering gear and a front differential of the off-road vehicle. The rear frame module is a tube-frame structure that supports components of the off-road vehicle. A lower portion of the rear frame module extends rearward and acutely upward to a top frame member that couples with upper side portions of the chassis. Several cross-members impart structural integrity to the rear frame module.

摘要: A steering knuckle gearbox assembly comprises a body having a housing portion having a cavity defined in the housing portion; a mating portion connected to the housing portion and being pivotably mountable an axle frame of a vehicle; and a mounting portion for having a steering link of the vehicle pivotably mounted to the mounting portion. An input shaft is rotationally supported by the housing portion and extends into the cavity at its one end and is operatively connectable to a drive axle of the vehicle at its other end. An output shaft is rotationally supported by the housing portion and extends into the cavity at its one end and is operatively connected to the input shaft at its other end. The output shaft is offset in height from the input shaft. A steerable track system for a vehicle is also described.

摘要: The present invention provides embodiments of modified upper and lower control arms for attachment to the steering knuckle that came with the vehicle, or for attachment to a modified steering knuckle of an embodiment of the invention, such that the steering knuckle, and in particular the wheel hub opening of the steering knuckle, are located at positions that are closer to the front of the vehicle than the positions provided by the control arms that came with the vehicle.
The forward position of the wheel hub relative to the position provided by the factory or stock control arms moves the wheel and tire forward by the same distance, thereby allowing much larger wheels and tires to be mounted on the vehicle which do not rub against or interfere with the wheel well, fender or body mount, thereby increasing the approach angle of the vehicle for use in off-road climbing.-

摘要: An apparatus and a method are provided for an offset tie rod joint for vehicle steering systems. The offset tie rod joint comprises a ball rotatably retained within a casing that is disposed in an opening of an offset housing. A threaded shank fixedly coupled with the offset housing is received by a steering rod. The opening is displaced from a longitudinal axis of the threaded shank by a distance that provides clearance between the offset housing and a spindle assembly during articulation of the spindle assembly during steering. A rear backstop and a front snap-ring in a groove retain the casing within the opening. A bore extending through the ball receives a bolt that fixates the ball between parallel prongs of the spindle assembly. A misalignment spacer on each side of the ball provides clearance for rotation of the ball within the offset housing.

摘要: A steering system includes a first wheel and a second wheel spaced apart from the first wheel, a first tie rod, a second tie rod, and an electrical actuator. The first wheel is rotatably coupled to a first knuckle, and the first knuckle is pivotable about a first suspension post. The second wheel is rotatably coupled to a second knuckle, and the second knuckle is pivotable about a second suspension post spaced apart from the first suspension post. The first tie rod is coupled to the first knuckle and to a mechanical linkage. The second tie rod is coupled to the second knuckle and the mechanical linkage. The electrical actuator is coupled to the mechanical linkage so that movement of the electrical actuator translates the mechanical linkage axially, which adjusts the orientation of the wheels relative to the suspension posts.

摘要: A leading-edge steering system is provided for a front suspension of an off-road vehicle. The leading-edge steering system is comprised of a spindle assembly that supports a drive axle assembly to conduct torque from a transaxle to a front wheel. A first rod-end joint pivotally couples an upper suspension arm and the spindle assembly, and a second rod-end joint pivotally couples a lower suspension arm and the spindle assembly. A steering rod-end joint pivotally couples a first end of a steering rod with a leading-edge portion of the spindle assembly. A steering gear is coupled with a second end of the steering rod and configured to move the steering rod, such that the spindle assembly rotates with respect to the upper and lower suspension arms. The leading-edge portion is configured to exert primarily tensile forces on the steering rod during travel over rough terrain.

摘要: A steering axle for a steerable vehicle includes an axle housing, a steering motor, a steering gear, a first steering knuckle with a first steering arm, a second steering knuckle with a second steering arm, a coupling rod, a first tie rod, and a second tie rod. The first and second steering arms are each rigidly arranged on a respective steering knuckle that is hinged in the axle housing. The first and second tie rods are each hinged at a first end to a respective steering arm and hinged at a second end to the coupling rod. The steering axle is configured so that the steering motor can set a steering angle of the steering axle via the steering gear. The steering axle has first and second intermediate steering levers, each hinged at its first end to the axle body and hinged at its second end to the coupling rod.

摘要: A steerable vehicle suspension can include an axle, at least one retractor having a length that decreases in response to a pressure increase applied to the retractor, and at least one wheel spindle. Resistance to rotation of the wheel spindle relative to the axle increases in response to the pressure increase applied to the retractor. A method of operating a steerable vehicle suspension of a vehicle can include allowing steering knuckles rotatably mounted at opposite ends of an axle to rotate relative to the axle while the vehicle moves forward, and applying an inwardly directed force simultaneously to each of the steering knuckles. Another steerable vehicle suspension can include two rotatably mounted steering knuckles, and two retractors connected to the steering knuckles. An inwardly directed force is applied by each retractor to a respective one of the steering knuckles in response to pressure applied to the retractors.

摘要: A steered wheel support structure of a vehicle, includes a knuckle member which supports an axle of a steered wheel and a support member which is coupled to a vehicle body and supports the knuckle member from a first side in a vehicle width direction in such a manner that the knuckle member is angularly displaceable around a steering axis line, the knuckle member includes: an axle support section which supports the axle; and two supported sections disposed on both sides in the upward and downward direction, of at least a portion of the axle support section, the two supported sections facing each other and being apart from each other in the upward and downward direction, and the two supported sections are supported by the support member in such a manner that the two supported sections are angularly displaceable around the steering axis line relative to the support member.
