Abstract:
The abrasion resistance of organic fiber based ropes and cords is increased by a outer woven cover of tapes of high molecular weight and more preferably ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene
Abstract:
A process for manufacturing high molecular weight polyethylene fibers, including subjecting a polyethylene tape with a weight average molecular weight of at least 500,000 grams/mole, a Mw/Mn ratio of at most 6, and a 200/110 uniplanar orientation parameter of at least 3 to a force in the direction of the thickness of the tape over the entire width of the tape. A polyethylene fiber having a Mw of at least 500 000 gram/mole, a Mw/Mn ratio of at most 6, and a 020 uniplanar orientation value of at most 55°.

A cable (11) is provided comprising a steel cord (12) and a polymer material (15). The steel cord (12) has a diameter less than 2.5 mm, and is coated with the polymer material (15). The cable (11) has a permanent elongation of less than 0.05% at a permanent force of 50 N, after being subjected to a force of 450 N. Further, a window elevator system (300) comprising such a cable (11) is provided.

Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a belt disposed radially outside a carcass in a tread portion, the belt comprising two cross plies of monofilament metallic cords laid at angles of from 15 to 30 degrees with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire, each monofilament cord composed of a waved single filament, the filament having a circular sectional shape having a diameter in a range of from 0.40 to 0.50 mm, or alternatively a non-circular sectional shape having an aspect ratio in a range of from 0.65 to 0.95 and a cross-sectional area in a range of 0.09 to 0.20 sq.mm.
Abstract:
A coated metal reinforcement element for polymeric or elastomeric materials comprises a coating of: a polymer or prepolymer compatible with and co-polymerizable, co-vulcanizable or crosslinkable with said polymeric or elastomeric material to be reinforced, and bearing functional groups; either covalently bonding to the metal surface of said reinforcement element; or forming covalent bonds with the outward directed first functional groups of a mono-or multimolecular layer of a bifunctional adhesion promotor intercalated between said metal by its second functional groups. A method for the coating includes a one step and a two step procedure.
Abstract:
A multi-strand nylon rope having improved abrasion resistance is comprised of a plurality of strands. Each strand is comprised of a plurality of yarns wherein each yarn is formed of a predetermined number of filaments. The filaments of each yarn are twisted together to form a yarn of a predetermined size, the twist direction being opposite that of the final ply yarn direction. For a right lay rope a sufficient number of filaments are twisted together in the left or "S" direction to produce a yarn of a predetermined size. Three or more yarns prepared in this manner are then plied or twisted together in the opposite or right direction. The cover for each strand is formed of alternate yarns of standard (i.e. round) and oblong filaments, respectively, the oblong filaments having a modification ratio of three, forming a rope having increased abrasion resistance, a hand and feel that is not stiff or unmanageable and which resists strand-to-strand wet abrasion.
Abstract:
A rope for traction of a double structure of a core member coated with a sheath member, in which said core member comprises a molecularly oriented shaped article of an ultrahigh molecular weight polyolefin, and said sheath member comprises a braid. The rope proposed herein is light in weight, floatable on water, easy to handle and excellent in safety to human bodies and weatherability.
Abstract:
A pneumatic radial tire is disclosed. This tire is reinforced with steel cords, each of which has such a flat or elliptic section that two or three strands, each strand being produced by twisting plural filaments, are arranged in parallel with each other so as to make the twisting directions of the adjoining strands opposite to each other to form a core and plural filaments are twisted around the core and wrapped with a spiral filament.
Abstract:
Rope having improved working qualities and hand without need to contain sizing or lubricants consists of a plurality of strands of fibrillated polyolefin film having a delustered surface. The film is delustered by surface abrasion prior to fibrillation and twisting into strands. Such rope exhibits low internal friction producing its good working qualities and low abrasion to objects in which it comes in contact producing its improved hand.
