Abstract: A NbTi superconducting multicore wire includes a core portion and a first barrier layer arranged around the core portion and composed of a first copper alloy including at least one element selected from Ni or Mn. A filament assembly arranged around the first barrier layer includes NbTi filament assemblies each including at least seven NbTi filaments, embedded in a matrix of a second copper alloy including at least one element selected from Ni or Mn. A second barrier layer is arranged around the filament assembly and composed of the first copper alloy, and a stabilizing layer arranged around the second barrier layer and composed of metal. The NbTi filaments are arranged in circular shapes each having a different diameter, centering on one NbTi filament, and NbTi filaments arranged in a circular shape in an outermost circle being arranged at approximately equal intervals along a circumferential direction.

Abstract: A method of patterning a layer of superconductor material comprises: forming a mask over the layer of superconductor material, the mask having at least one opening; depositing a layer of anodizable metal in the at least one opening, over a portion of the layer of superconductor material; removing the mask; and performing anodic oxidation, whereby the layer of anodizable metal protects the portion of the layer of the superconductor material from the anodic oxidation. The superconductor material is aluminium. The method allows for patterning of the superconductor material without the use of a chemical etch. This may in turn allow for improvements in resolution, and/or may avoid damage to further components or interfaces between components which may be present during the patterning. Also provided are the use of a titanium layer to protect an aluminium layer from anodic oxidation, and a semiconductor-superconductor hybrid device obtainable by the method.

Abstract: A superconducting article includes a substrate and a superconducting metal oxide film formed on the substrate. The metal oxide film including ions of an alkali metal, ions of a transition metal, and ions of an alkaline earth metal or a rare earth metal. For instance, the metal oxide film can include Rb ions, La ions, and Cu ions. The superconducting metal oxide film can have a critical temperature for onset of superconductivity of greater than 250 K, e.g., greater than room temperature.

Abstract: A Type II superconductor includes a perforated carbonaceous material with an activating material on at least one surface. The activating material a non-polar liquid that does not incorporate Pi-bonding in its structure. The superconductor is manufactured by perforating a carbonaceous material to produce voids and coating at least one surface of the carbonaceous material with the activating material. A superconductive cable includes wires with a perforated carbonaceous material wetted with the activating material on a non-conductive substrate interspersed with non-conducting spacers and surrounded by an insulation layer. The superconductor conducts current at room temperature and above.
