    Abstract: An automatic door operator for a swing door supported by a door supporting frame to swing about a vertical axis. The automatic door operator includes a mechanism for opening and closing the swing door, a drive for driving the door opening and closing mechanism to open the swing door, the drive including a prime mover for driving the door opening and closing mechanism, a door closer including a resilient device for storing part of mechanical energy provided by the drive in opening the swing door and for exerting driving force on the door opening and closing means by using the stored mechanical energy to close the door, a unit for electrically controlling the drive to swing the swing door, and a sensor for sensing a body accessing the door and thereby providing an electric signal to open the door to the controlling unit.

    Abstract: A door opener has a housing in which is contained a small fractional-horsepower reversible motor whose output shaft is connected to a worm gear journaled in the apparatus and meshing with a main gear in turn connected to an output member constituted as a sprocket. A clutch is provided between the main gear and the sprocket for disconnecting the two when rotation of the output member is resisted with a torque exceeding a given limit torque. A step-down transmission is connected between this output member and a control disk that carries opening and closing stops that are respectively engageable with opening and closing switches of an electrical control circuit. Thus the angular position of the control disk is directly related to the position of a door connected to the output member. A switch is provided which is actuated whenever the torque exerted between the motor and the worm exceeds a predetermined limit, and serves to reverse the displacement direction of the door in this case. Thus in the event the door strikes an object it will automatically reverse.

    Abstract: A reversible motor operates a vertically movable door through transmission means including a friction clutch. Control means receiving the output of a tachometer generator driven by the driven member of the friction clutch are arranged to switch off the motor automatically in response to a predetermined deviation downwards of the rate of rotation caused by an obstruction in the path of the door. Provided in the well are independent drive assemblies at opposite sides thereof, one of which includes a motor. A drive shaft interconnects the assemblies to insure synchronous operation thereof. Each assembly includes a pinion and guide means for slidably supporting the drive assemblies on the racks. The rotatable pinions associated with the drive means are in mesh with the racks so that a rotation of the pinions results in vertical movement of the drive assemblies on the racks. The drive assemblies are fixedly connected to the lower edge of the window.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a friction gear comprising a drive pulley operated by a motor, a driven ring disposed around the drive pulley and forming a friction zone between the inside surface of the ring and the pulley. A flexible tractive member, such as a rope, cable, chain or belt, extends around the outside periphery of the ring and is in frictional connection therewith, suitably in a groove, the member producing a pressure in the friction zone proportional to the tension in the tractive member. The gear operates in an analogous manner in both directions of rotation of the ring and may be used for example as an extremely simple garage door operator installed on the inside of the door per se. Disengagement between the drive pulley and the driven ring is possible in a simple manner by actuating from the outside of the gear an opposite movement to the pivoting ring. The ring can also be raised to come into contact with both of a pair of counter pulleys one of which counter pulleys being normally in contact with the outside of the ring during operation under load to produce a lever effect for creating the pressure in the friction zone. Such elevation brings the gear into a free-wheeling condition. The rings and pulleys may be provided with electric means to increase the extent of pivoting of the ring in either direction which extra pivoting may be used to actuate additional devices or electrical contacts to control the door in certain conditions of the gear such as in the final stages of movement of the door or in an overload condition of the gear.

    Abstract: A closure operator to effect remote, failsafe opening and closing of a damper, particularly a multi-fold or interlocking slat curtain damper. A frame or shell envelops a damper curtain which is capable of opening and closing an air passage through the frame or shell. A housing containing an electromechanical curtain operator is optionally positioned within or outside the frame or shell. The curtain is lifted by a tray connected to two wire cables, in response to the winding of the cable upon a takeup drum located within the housing. The principal components of the electromechanical curtain operator are a motor, planetary gear train and its associated latch mechanism which form a clutch, cable drum, speed control brake, and limit switch assembly. All of the foregoing components are protectively contained within an operator housing which is formed with an irregular shaped projecting finger which engages a mating opening formed in a damper supported bracket or in a baffle which isolates the curtain in its open position.
