Abstract:
A magnetic mass of an electric machine rotor extending along a longitudinal axis and comprising a plurality of housings, each housing being able to receive a respective electrically conductive bar. The magnetic mass further comprises, on at least one portion of its length along the longitudinal axis, at least one opening extending radially from one of the housings and opening outwards along a radial direction, substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis.
Abstract:
A rotary drum apparatus comprising a drum rotatable around a longitudinal axis, and at least one electric motor for driving the drum in rotation around the longitudinal axis, each drive motor comprising a stator and a rotor, the rotor comprising at least one ring portion joint together with the drum and extending substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis. The stator of each drive motor extending against a part of circumference of the drum perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved single-layer coil for a rotating or linear electrical machine. The coil has a first endwinding that is substantially straight to a longitudinal axis of the coil and a second endwinding that is bent relative to the longitudinal axis of the coil. The coil therefore has differently shaped endwindings with one end 12 being ‘straight’ and the other end being ‘bent.’

Abstract:
A cycloidal marine-propulsion system is disclosed. The system comprises a blade-mounting disc and a plurality of propeller blades. Each of the plurality of propeller blades has a respective primary blade axis and is connected to the disc in a manner allowing the blade to be rotated about its primary blade axis independent of any about-axis rotation of every other one of the propeller blades. The system also includes a plurality of electric actuators, each actuator being connected to a respective one of the propeller blades. The system further includes a controller in communication with the electric actuators for controlling selectively each of the electric actuators.
Abstract:
An exemplary power conversion system includes a power conversion device and a control system. The power conversion device converts electrical power from one form to another. The power conversion device includes at least one switching element capable of being turned off to block an electrical current flowing through the at least one switching element. The control system is electrically coupled to the power conversion device for monitoring an electrical current flowing through the at least one switching element and for monitoring at least one parameter in association with the operation of the power conversion system. The control system further generates an over-current threshold value that is variable with respect to at least one monitored parameter.

Dynamic positioning systems and methods for controlling thrusters of a vessel. A dynamic positioning system includes a controller configured to predict position and heading of the vessel and efficiently control the the thrusters based on the predicted position and heading.
Abstract:
A taut cable with a fiber optic cable with Bragg diffusion gratings allows a suitable driver circuit to determine the shape of the taut cable at a large number of points along its length. This enables the total 3-dimensional shape of the taut cable to be estimated and from which the position of the vessel relative to a seabed weight attached to the taut cable can be inferred.
