    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in communication systems using recursive modulation schemes with a Low Density Generator Matrix code (including an irregular repeat accumulate (IRA) code) are described that have reduced complexity and thus reduced cost compared to prior art systems. A communication system is described in which the transmitter concatenates a low density generator matrix code with an accumulator followed by a recursive modulator in order to eliminate the use of an interleaver, and in which the receiver combines the decoder for the accumulator and the soft demodulator into a single joint decoder in order reduce the number of components and complexity. Another variation is also described in which the transmitter is further simplified by eliminated the accumulator altogether, and in which the receiver is further simplified by replacing the joint decoder with a soft demodulator prior to the LDGM soft decoder.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic sensor for measuring flux density. The sensor comprises at least one tunnelling magnetoresistor, supporting circuitry and an output for outputting a signal from the tunnelling magnetoresistor. In another aspect, there is also provided a sensor probe comprising at least one magnetic sensor. A magnetic probe system is also described, comprising the probe sensor and processing circuitry. Methods of processing the output signal from the magnetic sensor are also described. In one application, the system and method allow for detection of tissue such as lymph nodes that have taken up small quantities of magnetic particles upon injection of a magnetic tracer containing the magnetic particles into a patient, and can be used to identify such tissue that could be affected by certain forms of cancer.

    Abstract: Parallel analog to digital converted (ADC) architectures that can be used to replace single path ADC architectures. The parallel ADC architecture can comprise N branches and one ADC per branch. These ADCs can be identical. However each branch can have a different path adjustments applied to the ADC. The path adjustments can be biases and/or gains and each ADC receives a different combination of biases and/or gain to generate multiple adjusted input signals. These are then combined to generate a quantized output signal. Using these parallel architectures a range of weighting and offset combining schemes can be employed to achieve improvements in signal to noise ratio and to reduce the impact of clipping as compared to a single path ADC architecture.

    Abstract: A method for producing a porous copolymer monolith substrate for use in flow through liquid chromatography applications is disclosed. The method comprises forming a reaction composition comprising at least one monoethylenically unsaturated aryl monomer, at least one polyethylenically unsaturated aryl monomer, a RAFT agent, at least one liquid porogen, and a radical initiator. The reaction composition is introduced to a mold having a shape and dimensions suitable for forming a liquid chromatography substrate. The monoethylenically unsaturated aryl monomer, the polyethylenically unsaturated aryl monomer and the RAFT agent are copolymerised in the mold under conditions to form a solid copolymer network that is phase-separated from the reaction composition and/or any liquid components.
