A NAND cell unit includes memory cells which are connected in series. An erase operation is effected on all memory cells. Then, a soft-program voltage, which is opposite in polarity to the erase voltage applied in an erase operation, is applied to all memory cells, thereby setting all memory cells out of an over-erased state. Thereafter, a program voltage of 20V is applied to the control gate of a selected memory cell, 0V is applied to the control gates of the two memory cells provided adjacent to the selected memory cell, and 11V is applied to the control gates of the remaining memory cells. Data is thereby programmed into the selected memory cell. The time for which the program voltage is applied to the selected memory cell is adjusted in accordance with the data to be programmed into the selected memory cell. Hence, data “0” can be correctly programmed into the selected memory cell, multi-value data can be read from any selected memory cell at high speed.

A mobile communication terminal enabling the user to select or change the transmission method (bearer) during or after the edit of message data when the terminal transmits data to the party communication terminal of the same model. The mobile communication terminal has a bearer changing function of changing the bearer during or after the edit of message data and a bearer automatic judging function of automatically judging an appropriate bearer after the edit. In an embodiment, if the quantity of character data (input with keys) exceeds a predetermined value (for example 128 bytes) during the edit of message data or if a file is attached, the user is prompted to change the communication method to the DAS bearer. At the next step, if the user issues an instruction to change the bearer to the DAS bearer, the mobile communication terminal operates to make a transition to the destination setting and message data creation according to the DAS bearer.

A canister includes a casing that has a tank port connected to a fuel tank, an atmospheric port connected to an atmospheric passage communicating with atmosphere, and a purge port connected to an intake passage of an engine. An adsorbent is charged in the casing for adsorbing fuel vapor. A support member defines an accommodation chamber in the casing. The support member supports the adsorbent. A pump is supported by the support member. The pump is accommodated in the accommodation chamber. The pump introduces atmospheric air into the accommodation chamber through the atmospheric passage. A motor is accommodated in the accommodation chamber. The motor drives the pump. A damping member is located between the pump and the support member for absorbing sound and vibration transmitted from the pump to the support member.

A non-volatile semiconductor memory device includes a memory cell array and a sense amplifier, the device being internally controlled to execute a write sequence with write pulse applications and write-verify operations repeated for writing a set of memory cells selected in the memory cell array, wherein the sense amplifier performs a write speed verify operation for detecting write speed of plural memory cells to be written into a certain data state after a certain write pulse application at the beginning of the write sequence, thereby getting discriminating data for classifying the plural memory cells into first and second cell groups, and after the write speed verify operation, the first and second cell groups are alternately written on different write conditions from each other with reference to the discriminating data.

The taking lens comprises a picture-taking optical system, which allows object light to enter an image-capturing element for picture-taking of a camera, and a focus determination optical system, which splits the object light and allows the split light to enter a focus status determination image-capturing element. The taking lens includes a picture-taking optical length adjusting device, which adjusts an optical length of the picture-taking optical system, and a focus determination optical length adjusting device, which adjusts an optical length of the focus determination optical system. It is hence possible to adjust the respective optical lengths separately and facilitates adjustments at the time of shipment.

With the exhaust gas measuring device and the exhaust gas measuring method, the workload of the internal combustion engine is calculated based on a discharged amount of a component related to a carbon compound such as CO, CO2 and THC in the exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine. As a result, the workload of the internal combustion engine can be calculated easily without using torque data of the ECU and the mass of each component in the exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine per unit workload can be calculated.

To provide a method for reading out symbol information and a device for reading out symbol information which are able to prevent a decline in decoding reliability by reducing noise caused by a quantized error, localized contaminations or the like. The method for reading out symbol information may comprise a process in which the image data, obtained by imaging the symbol information such as bar codes and the like, are converted to corrected image data having zero angle of inclination; a smoothing process in which the corrected image data are smoothed; and a column specifying process in which breakpoints of said symbol information column are specified by computing the total sum in the row direction on the smoothed corrected image data.

A damping intermediate pillar, which can exhibit a sufficient resistance against the horizontal force of a strong earthquake by reinforcing the joins between the damping intermediate pillar and the upper and lower beams, is disclosed. A damping intermediate pillar 14, used for a building or a structure configured of pillars 1 and beams 3, is divided into upper and lower damping intermediate pillar portions 14a, 14b of H shape steel, and includes a plurality of inner steel plates 7b fixed on the damping intermediate pillar portion 14b and a plurality of outer steel plates 7a fixed on the other damping intermediate pillar portion 14a. The inner and outer steel plates are arranged alternately in a single or a plurality of layers, between which a viscoelastic member 15 is held to make up a viscoelastic damper 17. The coupling end surfaces of the intermediate pillar portions 14a, 14b directed vertically are fixed on the upper and lower floor beams 3a, 3b. Further, one or both sides of each of the damping intermediate pillar portions 14a, 14b (i.e. the coupling members 13a, 13b) and the upper and lower floor beams 3a, 3b are coupled to each other by knee braces 19.
