A novel acrylic-functional organopolysiloxane is proposed which has a plural number of silicon-bonded (meth)acryloxyalkyl groups at each molecular chain end along with one or more of silicon-bonded alkoxy groups. The organopolysiloxane exhibits high curability by the irradiation with ultraviolet light or dual curability either by the ultraviolet irradiation or by the dealcoholation condensation reaction in a moisture-containing atmosphere. The acrylic-functional organopolysiloxane is prepared by the dealcoholation condensation reaction between a starting organopolysiloxane having a plural number of silicon-bonded alkoxy groups at each molecular chain end and a (meth)acryloxyalkyl dimethyl silanol compound in the presence of a specific condensation catalyst which is a divalent tin compound such as tin (II) dioctoate promoting the dealcoholation condensation but suppressing the silanol condensation reaction between the moleculaes of the (meth)acryloxyalkyl dimethyl silanol compound.

A novel organopolysiloxane compound having, in a molecule, at least one silyl-substituted ethyl group of the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group and the subscripts a is 2 or and b is 1, 2 or 3, or a linear organopolysiloxane having, at each molecular chain end, at least one of such a group, can be prepared by first reacting a vinyl-containing organopolysiloxane with a hydrogen chlorosilane compound to effect the hydrosilation reaction between the silicon-bonded vinyl groups and the silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms and then the silicon-bonded chlorine atoms are subjected to a dehydrochlorination reaction with a silanol compound of the general formula ##STR2## A composition comprising the organopolysiloxane and a photopolymerization initiator is highly sensitive to light and readily cured into a rubbery elastomer by irradiation with ultraviolet light.

A novel method is proposed for the synthesis of an organopolysiloxane having two hydrogen atoms directly bonded to the same silicon atom at the molecular chain end. The method comprises mixing a dihydro isopropenyloxy silane with an organosilicon compound having at least one silanolic hydroxy group so that a condensation reaction takes place between the isopropenyloxy group of the former reactant and the silanol group of the latter reactant forming acetone as a by-product. The method is advantageous in respect of the absence of any acidic or basic by-product contained in the product as an impurity in the conventional methods.

The invention provides a novel room temperature-curable organopolysiloxane composition useful as an adhesive or a sealing material with remarkably extended workable time owing to the delayed surface filming. The base component in the composition is a conventional diorganopolysiloxane terminated with hydroxy groups at both molecular chain ends admixed with several known ingredients such as a cross linking agent, curing catalyst, filler and the like. The most characteristic ingredient in the composition effective to achieve the above mentioned desired property is a 1,1,1-trimethyl-3-hydrocarbyl-3,3-di(acylamino)disiloxane which belongs to a novel class of organopolysiloxane compounds and method is described for the preparation of these siloxane compounds.

The organosilane compound, e.g. 3-methacryloxypropyl-containing alkenyloxysilanes can be readily prepared by the addition reaction of allyl methacrylate and a corresponding alkenyloxysilane having a hydrogen atom directly bonded to the silicon atom in the presence of a platinum catalyst. The organosilane compounds are useful as a coupling agent to increase adhesive bonding strength between inorganic and organic materials.

The invention provides a novel class of organosilicon compounds which are hydrogenalkenyloxysilanes represented by the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each a hydrogen atom or a monovalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and n is a number of zero, 1 or 2. The silane compounds are readily obtained by the dehydrochlorination reaction between a corresponding hydrogen-containing chlorosilane compound and an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated aldehyde compound or a ketone compound in the presence of an acid acceptor. The compounds are useful as a modifying agent in the silicone technology and also serve as a curing agent.
