    摘要: A step-size estimator for controlling the step-size of an adaptive equalizer incorporated in a transceiver (e.g., a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU)). The step-size estimator updates at least one adaptive equalizer tap used by the adaptive equalizer based on an apparent speed of a channel established between the transceiver and another transceiver. The step-size estimator includes a speed estimator, a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) averager and a step-size mapping unit. The speed estimator is used to estimate the apparent speed of the channel (i.e., the observed and/or measured rate of change of the channel impulse response). The SNR averager generates a common pilot channel (CPICH) SNR estimate. The step-size mapping unit uses the speed estimate and the CPICH SNR estimate to generate a step-size parameter, μ, and a filter taps leakage factor parameter, α, used by the adaptive equalizer to update the filter tap coefficient.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for correcting symbols of a common pilot channel (CPICH) to generate an accurate signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) estimate in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a non-stationary mean of a group of the CPICH symbols is estimated, the CPICH symbols are delayed, and the CPICH symbols are corrected by dividing the delayed CPICH symbols by the estimated non-stationary mean of the group of CPICH symbols. In another embodiment, a signal power estimate is generated based on the magnitude of CPICH symbols, a noise power estimate is generated by subtracting the signal power estimate from a total power estimate based on the magnitude of the CPICH symbols, and a SIR estimate is generated for symbols that have undergone a time varying gain by dividing the signal power estimate by the noise power estimate.

In another embodiment, the amplitude of an M-QAM or q-ASK signal is estimated based on statistical knowledge of the amplitude of the transmitted symbols. Other embodiments estimate amplitude, noise power, and signal-to-noise ratio of a received signal utilizing second-order and fourth-order moments of received samples, a maximum likelihood searching process, or a Kurtosis estimation process.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for compensating for phase noise of symbols spread with a long spreading code are disclosed. To compensate for the phase noise, a phase error estimate is generated from despread symbols with a short spreading code. A phase correcting phasor is applied to chip rate data before despreading the data with a long spreading code. A signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) on a common pilot channel (CPICH) may be calculated by spreading the data with a parent spreading code in an orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) code tree and by combining symbols. Alternatively, a magnitude of the symbols may be used in estimating the SIR. The SIR of a channel using a short spreading code and an SIR of a channel using a long spreading code are measured. The SIR of the channel with the long spreading code may be compensated in accordance with a difference between degradation of the SIRs.

    摘要: A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) provides facilitation of cell search. In one embodiment, received samples are split into a plurality of sample sets for processing. Each of the sets is processed and an accumulated result is divided by an estimated noise value. In another embodiment, a code correlator correlates the received signal with a primary synchronization code and an auxiliary code correlator having a same length as the code correlator correlates the received signal with a code having a low cross correlation with the primary synchronization code. In another embodiment, a division of an accumulated result with a noise estimate is performed using indexes of the most significant bits.

    摘要: A method and apparatus generating an error signal and an update vector signal used to generate filter tap coefficients for an equalizer filter residing in an equalizer. The equalizer filter outputs an equalized signal in response to receiving a sample data stream. The error signal is generated by down-sampling the equalized signal, subtracting the equalized signal from a reference signal, and filtering and down-sampling the resulting signal. Simultaneously, the update vector signal is generated by converting scalar samples of the sample data stream to a data vector signal and descrambling, filtering, and down-sampling the data vector signal. A tap coefficients generator is used to generate the filter tap coefficients for updating the equalizer filter based on the error signal and the update vector signal.
