Abstract:
Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Data for a broadcast or multicast service may be sent over a control channel. A network device may broadcast a message to indicate a plurality of enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast service (eMBMS) services offered by the network. The mobile device may transmit an indication to the network device identifying an eMBMS service of interest. The network device may transmit a configuration message before broadcasting or multicasting data of the eMBMS service of interest. The configuration message may notify the mobile device of a control channel on which to receive the data related to the eMBMS service. The network device may then broadcast or multicast the eMBMS service data on the control channel. The data may be segmented at a particular protocol layer and mapped to several transmission time intervals within each repetition of the control channel.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices of various embodiments enable the provision of providing terrestrial broadcast television services over a cellular broadcast system. In various embodiments, a processor of a network element of the cellular broadcast system may parse a terrestrial broadcast television service for one or more information elements. The processor may configure a service description of the cellular broadcast system to include the one or more information elements of the terrestrial broadcast television service. The processor may send the configured service description over the cellular broadcast system to a receiving device to enable the receiving device to receive the terrestrial broadcast television service over the cellular broadcast system.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices of various embodiments enable signaling one or more capabilities of servers, such as web servers or content delivery network (CDN) servers, to use file version information, such as MD5s (message digest 5 (MD5) algorithm hash values) and/or entity tags (ETags), to computing devices for byte-range file repair.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for smooth transition between broadcast/multicast transmission and unicast transmission. A method for managing unicast and multicast services switching in a multi-band/multi-frequency wireless communications system (WCS) capable of both unicast and multicast signaling includes determining whether an aggregate demand for a content provided via dedicated unicast transmissions exceeds a threshold. The method includes switching transmission of the content from the dedicated unicast transmissions on one frequency to a multicast transmission on a second or more frequencies in response to determining that the aggregate demand exceeds the threshold.
Abstract:
A device for receiving streaming data includes a broadcast or multicast middleware unit configured to receive the streaming data via a second service and a proxy unit configured to be disposed between the middleware unit and a client application, the proxy unit further configured to receive an indication of whether the streaming data is to be received via a first service or the second service, when the indication indicates that the streaming data is to be received via the first service: disable the middleware unit; and receive the streaming data via the first service, and when the indication indicates that the streaming data is to be received via the second service: activate the middleware unit to receive the streaming data via the second service, wherein the second service comprises at least one of a broadcast service or a multicast service; and receive the streaming data from the middleware unit.
Abstract:
An example client device includes a middleware unit for receiving media data either via a broadcast service or a unicast service, depending on whether the broadcast service is available. The client device also includes a streaming client, such as a Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) client. The DASH client sends requests to retrieve media data via the middleware unit. The middleware unit may cache media data received via the broadcast service, such that even when the broadcast service is not active, if the streaming client requests media data that was previously received via the broadcast service, the middleware unit may provide the media data to the streaming client from the cache, rather than requesting the media data from an external server device specified in the request from the streaming client.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices of the various embodiments enable a receiver device to use a modified segment availability time. In various embodiments, a receiver device may be enabled to modify availability start times for segments in a segment availability timeline, such as a Media Presentation Description (MPD), to account for the actual times when segments will be available to a DASH client.
Abstract:
The various embodiments enable a mobile device to determine the available services in a broadcast network based on an augmented coverage configuration file. In the various embodiments, the augmented coverage configuration file correlates the services for overlapping cells on different frequency carriers enabling the mobile device to determine the available services without having to scan additional frequency carriers.
Abstract:
A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product are provided in connection with facilitating hybrid unicast/broadcast service distribution. In one example, a communications device is equipped to provide a parity portion of titles in a channel of a service to a plurality of UEs at a first time, receive, from a UE at a second time, a request to access a title of the one or more titles, and provide an enablement item, to the requesting UE, which is a portion of the requested title that, when processed with the provided parity portion of the requested title, is sufficient to allow the requesting UE to decode and access to the requested title. In an aspect, the parity portion may be a parity portion of a fountain code encoded title, and the enablement item may be repair symbols of the fountain code encoded title.
Abstract:
A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives a first service and determines a potential upload time period including an aggregation time period. The potential upload time period is for uploading a reception report for the first service. The apparatus receives a second service before expiration of the aggregation time period. The apparatus determines whether to generate first reporting information for the received first service and second reporting information for the received second service. The apparatus aggregates the first reporting information and the second reporting information based upon the determination to generate both the first reporting information and the second reporting information.
