Abstract: Remote sensing and social sensing for flood mapping is provided by identifying where floodwater is present in an image of a location affected by a flooding event; identifying a social media post posted on a social media platform from the location and associated with the flooding event; and overlaying the image with the social media post. In some embodiments, the remote and social sensing includes one or more of: generating a permanent water mask identifying where permanent water is located at the location, and applying the permanent water mask to the image to differentiate the floodwater from permanent water for the location; identifying where the social media post was posted from; and overlaying the image with the social media post includes positioning a photograph included in the social media post for display with the image where a subject of the photograph is located at the location.

Abstract: A solution-based system for printing a 3D structure is provided and includes a substrate; a first solution including an organic molecule including a functional group at each end for creation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) including a first self-assembled monolayer (SAM) as a building block for printing the 3D structure, wherein the first solution is applied to a surface of the substrate to form the first SAM including a first SAM surface as a basis for the 3D structure; a second solution including metal ions, wherein the substrate with the first SAM is immersed into the second solution, and wherein the first solution is applied to the substrate which is immersed in the second solution thereby obtaining molecular-metal SAMs to provide a multiple layered SAM material; and means for applying a force and forming the 3D structure from the multiple layered SAM material, wherein the 3D structure is provided on the substrate.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system and methods for determining and reserving an optimized amount of required cloud instance resources in order to provide quality streaming to viewers while also reducing overhead costs. For content providers, the choice of appropriate cloud location to transcode the live streams and appropriate number of video representations to serve the current viewership is a key in minimizing cost. However, this task cannot typically be done on the fly due to the properties of live streaming characterized by its dynamic, heterogeneity and wideness. The provided system helps predict the incoming load and the exact number of resources to allocate at each cloud site to help prevent the content provider from over-provisioning resources, leading to an extra cost, or under-provisioning resources, leading to viewers' dissatisfaction.

Abstract: A new and innovative nanofluid is provided including carbide-derived carbon nanoparticles suspended in a base fluid, and a method of preparing the same. In one example, the inventors have demonstrated that a nanofluid including CDC nanoparticles suspended in a base fluid of water had an increased thermal conductivity as compared to water alone. In other examples, the provided nanofluid may include CDC nanoparticles suspended in a base fluid other than water, such as antifreeze mixtures or other suitable cooling or heating fluids. During preparation of the provided nanofluid, the base fluid and CDC nanoparticles mixture may be subjected to sonication. In some instances, the CDC nanoparticles may be functionalized, such as by a carboxylation process. In some instances, the CDC nanoparticles may be emulsified, such as by being mixed with a surfactant.

The end-user requests the remote service (4) to provide evidence of its identity, in the form of potentially different authentication materials. The authentication materials are then verified independently on each additional authentication arrangements (6, 7) and used to determine the authenticity of the response from the remote service (4).
