    Abstract: A gate operator in a first configuration opens and closes a gate that swings about an upstanding pivotal axis. In a second configuration the gate operator opens and closes a gate that extends and retracts along a straight line. A motor-driven wheel extends from the bottom of an open-bottomed enclosure and is perpendicular to the gate in the first configuration and parallel to the gate in the second configuration. The wheel is driven by a reversible DC motor. Turning a jack screw in a first direction increases the bias on an adjustable compression spring so that the weight of the gate is transferred to the wheel and rotation of the jack screw in an opposite direction shifts weight from the wheel to the gate.

    Abstract: A liftgate force control assembly (20) adjusts the force required to move a liftgate (12) that is pivotally secured to a motor vehicle (10) using a hinge (14). The liftgate force control assembly includes a track (42) that is fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. A follower (46) is movably secured to the track. A strut (34, 36) has a movable end (26, 28) and a secured end (30, 32). The secured end (30, 32) is pivotally secured to the liftgate (12) and the movable end (26, 28) is pivotally secured to the follower (46). The strut (34, 36) defines a moment with respect to the hinge that secures the liftgate to the motor vehicle. A motor (50) is connected to the follower (46) to move the follower (46) along the track (42) changing the moment of the strut such that the force required to move the liftgate (12) changes as the moment changes.

    Abstract: A counterbalance mechanism for a sectional garage door includes an elongated shaft mounted above the door opening and supporting spaced apart cable drums connected to respective cables which are connected at one end to the door for exerting a counterbalance force thereon. Opposed torsion springs are connected to the cable drums at one end, respectively, and to respective hub members which are axially slidable on but nonrotatable with respect to the shaft. The cable drums are provided with detachable bushing members for engagement with the support brackets. The shaft is connected to a non-reversible worm gear drive at one end. The worm gear drive may be actuated to selectively vary the torsional deflection of the counterbalance springs by rotating the worm and a ring gear meshed therewith. The worm gear drive may be detachably mounted on one or the other of shaft support brackets and a lock plate is supported on the shaft and engageable with a bracket to prevent rotation of the shaft when the drive mechanism is removed. The door guide members are engaged with coil compression springs for centering the door between its guide tracks and to minimize skewing of the door during opening and closing movement.

    Abstract: A door window regulator for vertically moving a door window glass of a vehicle includes a wire which is stretched between upper and lower pulleys respectively disposed at the upper and lower portions of a door such that the wire forms a closed loop. A wire hook is secured to a portion of the wire between the upper and lower pulleys and further secured to a wire mounting bracket which is secured to the window glass. The wire mounting bracket has a box-like portion into which the wire hook is inserted. The wire hook is prevented from coming off by a bent portion which projects from a portion of the wire mounting bracket.
