    摘要: A conveyor belt and drive structure are disclosed for use with a conversion press in which an upper level of an endless metallic conveyor belt, preferably of stainless steel, is positioned between upper and lower tooling in the press. The conveyor belt is formed by seam welding together the ends of a length of thin flexible metal, and includes a plurality of transversely and longitudinally spaced shell-receiving carrier apertures. The edges of the conveyor belt at the ends of the weld seam are relieved with an elongated notch shape having corners formed on a radius to eliminate from the belt stress concentrations which may occur during the welding process.

    摘要: A method of transporting can bodies for a fully automated resistance welding machine comprising a roll former station for rolling the bodies, two successively arranged driven transport systems, and a pair of welding electrodes. The transport systems comprise endless, revolving chains equipped with fixed catches or cams and defining first and second chains. The first chain passes through the roll former station where, during rolling of the blanks into the can bodies, it cyclically and periodically remains at least approximately stationary, whereas the second chain has a sinusoidal velocity course. The can bodies exposed to the intermittent non-continuous mode of operation of the first chain, necessitated by the roll forming operation, are transferred to the second chain and experience a movement which is stabilizing for the can bodies.

    摘要: A device for inserting a hot, heavy blank into a drop hammer die comprises a car mounted on rails for movement toward and away from the die and supporting a unit thereon adapted to be positioned in at least partially overlying relation to the die. The unit includes a pair of elongated rotatable shafts positioned in spaced parallel relation to one another with each shaft supporting a plurality of elongated rollers extending from that shaft partially across the space between the shafts. Positioning means are provided for selectively rotating the elongated shafts to vary the planar relationships of the rollers relative to one another, and further positioning means are provided for varying the orientation of the plane defined by the shafts between horizontal and inclined positions.

    摘要: A workpiece feed channel interposed between a metal peeling machine and straightener for elongated, rotating or non-rotating, metal workpieces. The channel includes a plurality of opposed pairs of driven profiled elements having workpiece receiving openings therebetween of a cross-sectional size approximately 1.5 to 10 times larger than the cross-sectional size of the workpieces carried therein. The workpieces are carried by and fed forwardly by the gravitational frictional engagement with the profiled elements. In one embodiment, the upper profile elements are raised to permit the release of the workpiece down inclined surfaces, rather than for the workpiece to continue on to the straightening machine.

    摘要: A commercial four-pillar hydraulic press is modified to accommodate a plurality of subpresses each mounted on a compound slide supported on a surface of a bed plate secured to the bolster of the press. Blade-making stock is carried progressively through the subpresses to be blanked and formed progressively thereby. The stock is held and is moved by a carrier, the stock being pre-perforated along one edge to permit securing the stock progressively and at closely spaced intervals to the carrier. Auxiliary presses held by a frame mounted on the bed plate operate in timed relation with the main press to form and to cut off completed blades from the stock while the same remains engaged with the carrier. To reset each of selected subpresses relative to the stock on the carrier, a motor driven positioner is moved to engage successive ones of the subpresses of the compound slides carrying the subpresses and to move each subpress to a position appropriate to the style of blade being blanked out and formed in which new positions and subpresses are held only by the hydraulic pressure of the press. At the completion of a production lot of blades, the subpresses are released by the ram and each compound slide is collected by mechanism which returns each subpress to a predetermined home position from which the subpresses are again engaged and relocated by the positioner mechanism. The carrier is driven stepwise by a selsyn-type motor. The positioner mechanism has two selsyn motors one of which moves a traveler parallel to the direction of motion of the carrier and a second which moves the respective subpresses one at a time normal to the direction of motion of the carrier. The respective motors and other functions in the apparatus are controlled in response to a conventional numerical control unit reading a prepared program from a punched tape. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawing and the following detailed description.
