摘要:
A process is disclosed for producing non-woven flat objects which are reinforced by means of a reinforcing inlay, in which the reinforcing inlay is electrostatically charged, then coated with a thermoplastic binder in powder form, the excess powder removed, and the inlay joined with at least one layer of a fiber fleece. The electrostatic charge is preferably produced by frictional contact of the inlay with an electrically nonconductive material, the coating is preferably accomplished by conducting the charged inlay through a fluid bed of said powder, the removal of excess powder is preferably accomplished by blowing air through the coated inlay, and the joining of the inlay with the fiber fleece is preferably accomplished by heat and pressure.

Disclosed is an improved thermoforming process wherein the amount of plastic film forced into a mold cavity is restricted so that only the proper amount required is introduced into the cavity. The restricting step may be achieved by (1) clamping the film at the open mouth of the cavity and then forcing film into the cavity or (2) heating only those portions of the film which are needed to properly fill the cavity or (3) heating the film uniformly and then selectively cooling those portions of the film which should not be introduced into the cavity. Novel clamping apparatus is also disclosed.

Moldings, for example hollow articles, are produced by sintering a thermoplastic powder or granular material and then reshaping the resulting blank by thermoforming. Sintering is carried out in a mold cavity under pressure, by exposure to high-frequency vibrations, which heats the plastic to a temperature intermediate between its softening point and its melting point. In this way, grain boundary adhesion between the individual plastic particles constituting the blank results, and the directly subsequent thermoforming can be carried out without additional supply of heat.

A hot roll, for use in a xerographic, dry-release, hot roll fuser, is made by a method which adds iron-containing, magnetically permeable, particles to the elastomer as the elastomer is mixed. The particles may be pre-coated with a silane adhesive promoter. The mixed elastomer is then injected around a hollow, cylindrical aluminum core. As the elastomer sets up, in the mold, a magnetic field is applied such that the iron-containing particles migrate toward the metal core, and away from the exterior surface of the elastomer. This exterior surface will later be used to fuse xerographic toner. After the elastomer has set, its external surface is ground slightly, to produce a true circular-cylinder, but without exposing the underlying, more dense, layers of iron particle filler. As a result, the elastomer-to-core interface is mechanically strong, and yet the fusing property of the elastomer is not degraded by the presence of filler.

Apparatus for extracting precious metals from their ores in which the ore is particulated and mixed with a binding agent to form a paste. The paste material is discharged into a rotary drum at an extruding station where it is pelletized by forcing it through a perforated sidewall of the drum. The pellets are discharged onto a conveyor belt and are transported to a spray station where they are wetted with a lixiviant solution. The lixiviant coated pellets are then dried by exposure to a heated air stream at a drying station as they are transported to an open air curing stockpile. The cured pellets are heaped in a pile and are then washed with a water spray to yield a pregnant solution of a precious metal salt.

A method of manufacturing a composite material which comprises filaments enclosed in a matrix of a high temperature resistant thermoplastic polymer. The method entails impregnating the filament with a first high temperature resistant thermoplastic polymer in an amount sufficient only to lightly bind the fibres together. The bound fibres are then interposed between sheets of a second thermoplastic polymer and the whole structure subjected to heat and pressure for a time sufficient to ensure impregnation of said second thermoplastic polymer into said filaments and diffusion of the first thermoplastic polymer into the second thermoplastic polymer.
