Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel compounds, compositions containing same and methods for inhibiting STAT3 and/or STAT5 activity or for the treatment of a STAT3 or STAT5-dependent cancer using said compounds; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate or prodrug thereof.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for extracting tissue samples are disclosed herein. An example apparatus disclosed herein includes a first sidewall and a second sidewall spaced apart from the first sidewall. The example apparatus also includes a track to receive a blade between the first sidewall and the second sidewall. The track is to guide the blade to penetrate skin of a patient to a predetermined depth of invasion.
Abstract:
A system for measuring electrical signals in a biological subject includes a variable gain amplifier with a predetermined transfer function that generates amplified signals corresponding to an input from electrical signals in the biological subject over a predetermined range of frequencies and amplification gain levels, an analog to digital converter generating digital data corresponding to the amplified signals, and a signal processing device receiving the digital data for the plurality of amplified signals. The signal processing device applies an inversion filter with another transfer function that is an inverse of the transfer function of the variable gain amplifier to remove an effect of the transfer function from the digital data, and generates an output signal corresponding to the electrical signals in the subject with reference to the filtered digital data.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions comprising hematopoietic growth factor proteins and/or protein analogs thereof and/or combinations thereof and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors to treat the acute and long term adverse effects of radiation exposure in subjects who have been or will be exposed to radiation are disclosed.
Abstract:
A method and system for determining depth of an image using a single imager and a lens having a variable focal length is provided. The system comprises a microfluidic lens having a variable focal length controlled by a lens controller and an imager receiving an image of an object from the lens, wherein the imager is configured to receive a first image comprising a first plurality of pixels from the lens at a first focal length and a second image comprising a second plurality of pixels from the lens at a second focal length, the second focal length being different than the first focal length, non-volatile memory, wherein the first image and the second image are stored in the non-volatile memory, a depth module configured to determine a distance between the lens and the object based by a comparison of the first image of the object and the second image of the object.
Abstract:
Methods for modulating inflammation using progesterone metabolites are disclosed. More particularly, methods of administering progesterone metabolites, 6β-hydroxyprogesterone (6β-OHP) and 16α-hydroxyprogesterone (16α-OHP) are disclosed for mitigating inflammation in various tissue types in the body.
Abstract:
Virus capsids protect the viral genome and play roles in its delivery and intracellular transport, making them an attractive target for antiviral therapeutics. The difficulty in targetting capsid assembly is to identify molecules that interfere with the weak protein-protein interactions that drive the reaction. We have developed an in vitro assay for capsid assembly that works on a range of viruses at biologically relevant protein concentrations to facilitate screening large libraries of chemicals for lead compounds.
Abstract:
Single chain insulin analogs are provided having high potency and specificity for the insulin receptor. As disclosed herein optimally sized linking moieties can be used to link human insulin A and B chains, or analogs or derivatives thereof, wherein the carboxy terminus of the B25 amino acid of the B chain is linked to the amino terminus of the A1 amino acid of the A chain via the intervening linking moiety. In on embodiment the linking moiety comprises a polyethylene glycol of 6-16 monomer units and in an alternative embodiment the linking moiety comprises a non-native amino acid sequence derived form the IGF-1 C-peptide and comprising at least 8 amino acids and no more than 12 amino acid in length. Also disclosed are prodrug and conjugate derivatives of the single chain insulin analogs.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for manipulating fluids. The apparatus may include a microfluidic structure including inlet channels (1 and 2) and outlet channels (306, 307, 308, 309, 310, 311, 312, 313, and 314) oriented among bifurcated (5), trifurcated (6) and merging junctions (7 and 8). The apparatus splits and merges fluids flowing in the channels to produce successive dilutions of the fluids within the outlet channels. Multiple apparatus may be combined in serial, parallel, combined serial and parallel and/or stacked configurations. One or more apparatus may be used alone or to provide various devices or chambers with the diluted fluids.
