Abstract:
A beam lead device which can be made extremely thin and with an extremely narrow cross sectional area is presented. The beam lead device has elongated metal contacts on its top and bottom surfaces which overhang the surfaces and which are angularly disposed from one another so as to form an X. Also presented is the method for making such a beam lead device which includes the steps of preparing an appropriately-doped piece of semiconductor material, depositing elongated metal contacts upon the top and bottom surfaces of the semiconductor material, and then etching through the semiconductor material with its portions of the top and bottom contacts which intersect one another acting as a mask and protecting the semiconductor device during the etching procedure. The disclosed method of forming a beam lead device eliminates critical alignment of masks and also provides a simplified method of making such a device.
Abstract:
A layer of magnesium fluoride is slant evaporated onto a substrate to provide an oriented microstructure thereon capable of causing sympathetic alignment of liquid crystal molecules. A process is used in which particles from a heated mass of magnesium fluoride travel along straight line paths directly from the heated mass to the substrate.
Abstract:
A motor in a tape cartridge player is coupled by means of a worm gear to a cycling gear. Control of the motor, as to its starting and stopping sequences, is determined by the angular position of the cycling gear which functions to drive a transducer positioning mechanism and a cartridge engagement-disengagement mechanism. The angular position of the gear is sensed by means of a contact assembly which engages a conductive pattern on a printed circuit board secured to the cycling gear.
Abstract:
A circular phased array system is described which utilizes a lens feed to simplify the problem of commutating the RF distribution system through 360* of steering of the antenna beam. The lens feed consists of a circular parallel plate radial transmission line with a central set of probes and a ring of peripheral probes. The peripheral probes are coupled to an array of radiating elements arranged in a circle. The central set of probes can be energized and phased to produce electromagnetic energy with an amplitude distribution within the parallel-plate line in any given direction. By selective settings of phase and amplitude of the energy coupled to the central set of probes, any sector of the peripheral probes is excited with the proper amplitude distribution necessary to produce a directive antenna pattern with low sidelobes.
Abstract:
A current mirror amplifier for combining the output currents of an MOS source-coupled differential amplifier comprises first and second bipolar transistors having parallelled base-emitter circuits including emitter degenerative resistors. A similar resistor judicially placed in the collector circuit of one of these bipolar transistors ensures that the differential amplifier will not exhibit an offset potential between its input terminals caused by its component devices being subjected to different conditions of quiescent drain biasing when the differential amplifier supplies its combined output currents by direct coupling to a subsequent grounded-emitter amplifier stage.

Abstract:
A laser tube is aligned within a cylindrical fixture using adjustment means therein. Then spaced pads of a cured elastomer are formed between the tube and the inside surface of the fixture, the pads being adherent to the tube and nonadherent to the fixture. Then the tube with the adhered pads thereon is removed from the fixture and inserted into a solid-wall cylindrical envelope having the same size internal diameter as the fixture to form a laser device.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for recording both the luminance and color information components of a color television signal in a single track of a magnetic tape. The color components are recorded substantially throughout the magnetizable tape coating, while the luminance component is recorded substantially only in the surface of the magnetizable coating of the tape.
