Abstract:
An optical fiber positioner having an elongated base with sidewalls and a longitudinally extending throughbore. A flexible optical fiber extends through the throughbore and has one end protruding outwardly from an end surface of the base. A plurality of actuators are secured to the sidewalls of the base so that an end of each actuator is positioned adjacent the end of the base. A crossbeam is then connected to the ends of each actuator so that the crossbeam moves laterally relative to the base in unison with the deflection of the actuators. The crossbeam has an opening through which the optical fiber extends so that the optical fiber deflects in unison with the lateral movement of the crossbeam. Various fixtures for assembly of the optical fiber positioner are also shown.
Abstract:
A spherical morphology of the high explosive tetranitroglycoluril (TNGU) has been discovered. This new morphology exhibits approximately a twofold improvement in the response of the material to impact, more than a one and a half fold improvement in friction and the same high resistance to electrostatic discharge over non-spherical TNGU produced by other methods.
Abstract:
An electric field sensor having at least a first and second electrically conductive generally planar electrodes that are spaced apart from each other. A circuit is electrically connected to the electrodes which is configured to generate an output signal proportional to a time derivative of a varying electric field surrounding the electrodes. Optionally, three sets of spaced apart electrodes which are arranged perpendicularly relative to each other are used for three-dimensional measurements of the electric field.
Abstract:
A supercapacitor or electrochemical capacitor includes spaced apart electrodes which are separated from each other by a separator made of an electrical insulating material. Each electrode is formed of carbonaceous material and capable of being impregnated with a liquid electrolyte. Metal current collectors are provided on the sides of the electrodes opposite from the separator. The electrodes have holes extending through the electrodes to reduce ionic impedance in order to produce faster charging and discharging of the device.

A method of making a piezoelectric device comprising providing a deposition chamber, the deposition chamber having reduced pressure therein; loading a substrate into the deposition chamber; sputter depositing hexagonal 001 oriented titanium on the substrate; providing an oxygen anneal to convert 001 oriented titanium into 100 oriented rutile TiO2; sputter depositing a 111 or 100 oriented textured conducting material for use as an electrode; sputter depositing a hexagonal 001 oriented titanium and providing an oxygen anneal in a lead oxide environment to convert 001 oriented titanium into 100 oriented rutile TiO2 or PbxTi1-xO3; sputter depositing textured lead zirconate titanate PbZrxTi1-x03 having an 001 orientation as a piezoelectric layer, and sputter depositing a textured electrode on top of the textured lead zirconate titanate; whereby processing of the layers within the deposition chamber provides minimized exposure to ambient contamination and improved texturing in the resulting films.
Abstract:
An RF system comprising of outputs to an electronically scanning antenna for radiating electromagnetic energy; at least one waveform generator; two multiphase phase-locked loops integrated with the waveform generator, the phase locked loops operating to provide multiple shifted phases to a waveform. Optionally, the two multiphase phase-locked loops may each be divided down by a bank of frequency dividers to further increase the number of phase shifts. The phases generated from each multiphase phase-locked loops are selected with multiplexers then mixed together. These upper or lower sidebands are then mixed with the up converted waveform which results in a phase shift for the waveform associated with each antenna element.
Abstract:
An apparatus for generating a frequency spectrum of an RF signal comprising a gate switch for generating a series of pulses from a laser of wavelength lambda modulated by an input RF signal, a first fiber optical loop for circulating a first percentage of a first pulse of the series of pulses from the gate switch, for a predetermined number of cycles n where each cycle takes time t1, a second fiber optical loop for conducting a second percentage of the first pulse for predetermined number of cycles “k”, where each cycle takes time t2, where t2*k=t1*n, a first switch with a first state for coupling the first pulse from the gate switch to a coupler, the coupler coupling the first pulse into the first fiber optical loop and tapping replicas of the pulse from the first fiber optical loop, and a second state for coupling the second percentage of the first pulse to the coupler to increase intensity of the tapped replica pulses, a processor for correlating the replicas of the pulse with each other to produce a set of data points comprising a plurality of multiplexed correlated pulses and transforming the data points into a channelized frequency spectrum of the input RF signal.
Abstract:
An improved methodology for annealing group III-nitride semiconductor device structures using novel weighted cover systems that protect an annealing cap during the semiconductor annealing process is disclosed. The weighted cover system is configured for preventing the escape of nitrogen from the capped semiconductor during annealing. In one particular embodiment, the weighted cover system comprises a protective cover configured to be placed on the capped semiconductor during the anneal, and one or more weights configured to be placed on the protective cover to provide sufficient downward force to the protective cover that is placed on the capped semiconductor.
Abstract:
A cutter to cut die attach solder preform material is disclosed. It is formed of: a base; a pair of raised blocks spaced apart on the base with each having a slot sized to accommodate a cutting blade configured to cleave the material to be cut, constrain the cutting blade to vertical movement, and maintain the squareness of the cutting blade with respect to the base for cutting material; an adjustable stop positioned forward of the cutting blade which is configured to be moved so as to set the length of the material to be cut by the cutting blade; and a linear scale positioned proximate to the adjustable stop which enables a measured length of the material to be cut. Methods of using the aforementioned cutter are also disclosed.
