摘要: An image forming apparatus is provided which forms images on both a concavo-convex sheet having a concavo-convex surface on which is formed many concavities capable of receiving toner and from which toner can be removed, and a general-purpose sheet which is not specially processed. The image forming apparatus has a first mode for forming an image on a general-purpose sheet, and a second mode for forming an image on a concavo-convex sheet. In the first mode, a general-purpose sheet receives a transferred toner image in the image forming region, and thereafter is guided to a fixing unit, where the toner is fixed on the sheet. In the second mode, a concavo-convex sheet receives a transferred toner image in the image forming region, and thereafter does not pass through the fixing unit but is guided to a convexity cleaning unit, where toner adhered to the convexities of the concavo-convex sheet during transfer is removed.

摘要: A method for chemical-mechanical polishing of a layer that is deposited on a surface of an integrated circuit substrate is described. The method includes: (1) immobilizing the integrated circuit substrate using a substrate holder such that the integrated circuit substrate surface is positioned against a surface of a polishing pad, which is mounted on a supporting surface; (2) a first stage of polishing the substrate surface including maintaining a predetermined difference between the rotational velocity of the polishing pad and the rotational velocity of the substrate holder allowing an endpoint of the chemical-mechanical polishing process of the layer to be detected; and (3) a second stage of polishing the substrate such that the rotational velocity of the polishing pad and the rotational velocity of the substrate holder are substantially the same to produce a substantially planar substrate surface.

摘要: When, in devices of various types, a plurality of cartridges 3 and 5 are inserted into prescribed positions of a main device body with a prescribed sequence and a prescribed insertion path formed with guides 16 and 17, the cartridge 5 that is next to be inserted into the main device body 1 is inserted into its prescribed position in main device body 1 by guidance or accompanied by guidance from a guide section 51 provided on cartridge 3 that is previously inserted into its prescribed position in main device body 1. By means of this construction, it is made easy for the operator to notice incorrect insertion where there are a plurality of cartridges and correct cartridge insertion is facilitated.

摘要: The accelerator opening degree detection apparatus of the present invention includes: an accelerator pedal position sensor for detecting a position of an accelerator pedal; and a calculating section for calculating an accelerator opening degree based on an output of the accelerator pedal position sensor. The calculating section performs at least the following steps of: obtaining a signal PDLAD by smoothing the output of the accelerator pedal position sensor with a first smoothing coefficient; obtaining a signal PDLSM by smoothing the output of the accelerator pedal position sensor with a second smoothing coefficient which is larger than the first smoothing coefficient; storing a reference value GPDL representing a reference position of the accelerator pedal position sensor; calculating an accelerator opening degree PDLA based on a difference between the signal PDLAD and the reference value GPDL; and updating the reference value GPDL based on the signal PDLSM if the accelerator opening degree PDLA satisfies a predetermined update condition.

摘要: A fixed frame includes a photosensitive drum and a developing unit, and a movable frame is openable with respect to the fixed frame. The developing unit, which has two pairs of protrusions thereon, is detachably mounted to the fixed frame by engaging the protrusions with two pairs of guides provided on the fixed frame. One pair of guides includes a portion for momentarily catching one pair of the protrusions as the developing unit is being mounted to the apparatus, and each of the other pair of guides includes a inclined portion having the shape of an arc centered on the momentarily catching portion, whereby an impact to the developing unit is alleviated. The developing unit has a shutter which moves to a position for covering a peripheral surface of a developing sleeve when the developing unit is being dismounted, and which retracts from the developing sleeve covering position and moves to a position for covering the photosensitive drum when the developing unit is being mounted. The movable frame accommodates a fixing device to move the fixing device rearwardly together with the movable frame when the movable frame is opened, whereby the danger of an operator touching the fixing device when the apparatus is opened is reduced.

摘要: An FM-CW radar which is suitable for automotive anti-collision systems, for example, is provided. This radar outputs a radar signal in the form of a triangular wave whose frequency is increased at a given rate and decreased at a given rate. A receiver receives a wave reflected from a target to produce a beat signal and takes the Fourier transform of the beat signal to determine peak frequency components thereof showing peaks in a frequency spectrum. The receiver also determines phases of the peak frequency components and selects at least one from the peak frequency components in a frequency-rising range wherein the frequency of the radar signal is increased and at least one from the peak frequency components in a frequency-falling range wherein the frequency of the radar signal is decreased which show substantially the same phase to pair them for determining the distance to and relative speed of the target based on the frequency of the paired peak frequency components.

摘要: A liquid crystal device is constituted by disposing a chiral smectic liquid crystal between a pair of substrates each provided with an electrode and a uniaxial alignment film. The chiral smectic liquid crystal is placed in such a quasi-smectic A alignment state that the liquid crystal molecules will have a single average molecular axis under no electric field application on a lower temperature side within chiral smectic C phase range, wherein the single average molecular axis can be confirmed as a position providing the darkest state when observed through cross nicol polarizers. Such a quasi-smectic A alignment state is effective in providing a liquid crystal device (or display apparatus) having an improved shock resistance and a good low-temperature storage properties.
