A cuvette used in a flameless atomizer is hollow and includes an opening at both ends and a hole in a radial direction substantially at its central portion. The cuvette is made of a conductive material and Joule-heated by currents flowing therethrough. The interior of the cuvette is divided substantially into three sections: a sample mount section at which a sample introduced through the hole of the cuvette is disposed; a light beam path section through which light incident from the opening at one end of the cuvette passes and goes out of the opening at the other end; and an absorption cell section at which the light beam path section intersects with atomic vapors generated from the sample disposed at the sample mount section. The electric resistance of the cuvette is made smaller at the sample mount section than at a portion near the absorption cell section. This allows the higher temperature of the portions near the absorption cell section than that of the sample mount section. Therefore, almost all of the atomic vapors in the cuvette exist at the absorption cell portion, and the application of a magnetic field to the absorption cell section allows a great improvement in analysis precision and sensitivity of the flameless atomizer for atomic absorption analysis using a Zeeman effect.

Provided is a scanning probe microscope that takes measurements at high spatial resolution on physical information such as array structure of water molecules at a specimen-culture fluid interface in a culture fluid as well as irregularities of the surface of a specimen and composition distribution and array structure of molecules, proteins, etc. even in the atmosphere, an ambient air, vacuum, among others. The scanning probe microscope includes: a probing needle (1); a specimen holder (11) in which a specimen (3) is mounted; an oscillator (2) that produces a periodic oscillation to change the probing needle position; a pulse oscillation type laser light source (27, 28) that emits light toward a spot, which is put under measurement by the probing needle, on the specimen; a detector (25) that measures intensity of output light which is output from the specimen by energy spectroscopy; and a control device (26). The control device decreases amplitude of the periodic oscillation to change the probing needle position by the oscillator, shortens a relative distance between the probing needle and the specimen, and synchronizes shortening of the distance between the probing needle and the specimen and emission of pulse oscillation laser light, thus optimizing efficiency of tip-enhanced detection.

Light is utilized to image the results of the measurements, in which the measuring time is shortened by estimating fluctuation attributable to the living body, and the presence or absence of a change in measured signal can be decided easily by displaying an estimation signal and a measured signal at a time.

It has long been unclear in what degree the brain should be activated and how much the blood volume should be varied for controlling a signal by measuring the concentration of metabolic substance in the tissue or change of concentration thereof using the light and by using the result of measurement. The present invention provides an optical measuring system which can present the concentration of metabolic substance in the tissue which may be detected with a subject by itself or the target value of change of the concentration. Thereby, it is now possible for the subject by itself to more easily detect and control the concentration of metabolic substance in the tissue or change of concentration thereof. As a result, cerebral information can be extracted in direct to realize various applications such as control of the game machines and welfare facilities.
